I was playing around with etching some pictures on glass. So I did my avitar to see just how much detail I could get in black and white and it's only about 4"x5" . Did not turn out too bad but still need to get better on the original artwork b4 I etch :D . I have gottten fairly good over the years but this is a whole new process for me an ol lady:confused:

True and I am playing with that too ,catch about back lighting is not haveing the light source viewable .For some reason I dont really like edge lighting like I use for deeper or carved type stuff . I am leaning more toward a shadow box with top and bottom mounted defussed lighting from LED's prob a 113 deg or so . Problem with this is I now need to find the time to be a woodworker and pc board builder and thats the hard part . Ahhhh too many ideas and never enough time to get to most <VBG>

How about doing a Viper Head for the sliding back window of the Truck?
 
More Glass Etching ideas:

"No, Its Not a Hemi"...on the drivers side window.

"Hope you are looking at my Truck, not my Woman..." Mutt's passenger side window.

"Viper Powered" etched at the top of the windshield

"Mustangs for Breakfast....Lightening's for Lunch" left and right side rear windows

Mike...can you produce stencils with some sort of glass etching chemical so we could do these? Or maybe you just offer the window replacements with the etching on the glass...With your knowledge about glass maybe this could be a product you offer???? Nothing like turning hobby into cash!
 
I wish.

If we could find someone talented enough to do the etching, it could be done.

These back windows are a royal pain in the ass to get out without damaging anything, but we can do it.

The etching idea is a good one though.

Ok I can do any of that but not sure on the acid etch as I have never used it but it is fairly hard to use on a vertical surface ,too runny
This is not a hobby the wife and I also own a glass shop GLASS HAUS and do stained glass ,etched glass .carved glass ,archetectural glass . I also have done etching on aluminum , chrome ,stone ,leather or just about any hard surface . I am set up semi portable in that a Dr's entry door gets done hanging at his office but most I do in the shop

From what I have heard they are a PIA on the back windows and for that reason I would prob want to do it in the truck as that would save the R&R ,unless it was being replaced anyway

Try to get a back glass in a lazer machine .
Dude that aint skill , all my stuff is done by hand and be real carefull on lazer as it is tempered glass and the lazer stuff is so fine it will wear off

Any *clues* as to the software?

I've been trying for 2 weeks go pull an image into SolidWorks. It's been going...not so well.

PM me if you would, Mike. I'm curious about the setup you used.

The ony thing not done by hand is the art work which I do in Corel . These are not mass produced items I do 1 off stuff .That is why a lot of people have problems with cost they dont understand making up artwork takes longer than blasting . The photo type stuff is done with 220 grit silicon carbide . Here is another car I did but this is not a photo but done like standard etching ,Ford C cab that was a early custom built in the 60's .We also do a lot of work for the Wineries doing special glasses and occation bottles , some wedding stuff ,and rocks from pocket stones to building markers . Then there is the etching I do to mix with Fritz's stained glass and we have been doing this for about 10 years

Mike I ment no harm. I admit these backglasses are a Bitch to get out.

I just thought you would rather work on the glass on a bench, than in the truck.

There is a machine called an Inductor, it heats the metal from outside of the vehicle. Once you get used to it 2 people can remove one of our backglasses in about 30 minutes without doing any damage. However if you are not careful, it is very easy to over heat the metal and burn the paint. If you would like more info let me know.

I was refering to the talent comment not the want to pull back glass:D
I hate glass as I end up doing these old ones since non of the glass guys around will touch stuff not glued in on windshields. if it's a full back piece and not the sliders I would just as soon shoot it in the truck as less chance for damage and it would not fit my cab . For that I have a recycleing blaster so I dont make a big mess
