My former audio sposnor in the SS suggested this :

All Boston Acoustics:

Pro 6.5 speakers

2 ch amp

Mono 500W amp

10" G2 sub(keep stock box)

LC 6 digital box

Bullet connectors and Hyper wire- chrome/black

Keep stock head unit.

Any thoughts on this?

Dave, sounds like good stuff.....haven't looked at audio mags in a while, always been partial to Polk myself, but heard good things about Boston A....I'm guessing he's wanting to run the mids and highs off the head unit, with the sub running off the amp....was this a low-cost improvement suggestion????

Seems for real improvement, all speakers would need to be replaced, run off a real amp, new head unit, new sub w/ new box and amp....probably 150W for the mids and highs, another 300W for the sub....real quality stuff w limited distortion....

For a cheaper alternative, it sounds like a good idea, but I'm concerned you won't get the quality you might be searching for with the stock box and head unit.....my two cents....

I was going to go with Bostons or Focals for the speakers in my setup but that was before my audio place suggested a sponsored deal and emassing a pile of speakers in the bed. I've been satisfied with my DB Setup so far, sounds clear and high quality.

I have the Boston Pro Series 6.5's in my TT300ZX...been some of the best components that I have used. I have the Polk Audio Momo 6.5 components in the Probe GT and like them as well...just not as much as Boston. Focal....well....I have the 6.5 Utopia's brand new waiting for the install on the SRT-10....this will probably be the best component set I have ever had in one of my vehicles.

As far as the factory head unit...it's "okay"....it's just that you are always limited with the signal output a factory deck will give you. A lot of factory head unit systems with aftermarket amplifiers are simply "unleashed" quality-wise when the head unit is replaced later.......food for thought.

I wanted to retain the stock head unit for ease of operation and keeping my billet knobs.

Yes ,they are running the center channel and Boston Acoustic tweeters off the stock amps. The 500 mono will power the sub and the 300, 2 channel for the 6.5`s.I am replacing all the factory speakers with Boston Acoustic pieces.

I can always replace the head unit later if it is that bad and a sub box.

It has to be better than the Infinity system that is in there.

hey rok jl offers a thing called clean sweep so you wont have to remove your stock head unit also i have been tryin to find the right subs and what not forever and now i have it. if you dont need the back space you should get 2 jlw7 12"s with a 1000 watts to each. for so long everyone said they would not fit but a really good streo guy said they will it will just be a lil tricky . if you get this setup it will make your ears bleed (if ur into that )
but boston g5 are off the hook as well but they are no w7 . just a lil help for ya

Rokt are you sure on the 6.5?

Rokt, thanks for sharing your plans. I am considering some similiar changes. I used the "Check whether these speakers will fit in your car " from e-bay and it lists 6 inch for the size. Are the RC and QC different sizes? Keep us updated on your progress.:)

I am just going on the reccomendation of the shop.Maybe they will cut a little bit to get them to fit.

I`ll let you know.I need to coordinate this with the Roe trip. The guy has a shop in the ATL and I`ll stop on the way back.

Keep in mind that the RC and the QC are the same door design as any Dodge truck...they come with 6 X 9-inch speakers in the front doors and 6 1/2-inch in the rear. The 6 1/2 components would require the audio shop to make some plates (probably from 1/4-inch MDF and painted black) before the installation into the doors. The tweeters that come with the component set could either be placed in the doors in these plates or for the best sound and imaging put in the dash where the factory tweeters are located...my .02.
