I went and picked up a Tstat from a local shop today. I found the shop info on the Roe page and they were very helpful. In talking to them I mentioned a Flashed PCM that I want to purchase. They said that they can custom tune a PCM and Dyno my truck for a very good price. What is the difference in a custom tune and a pre flashed unit besides the obvious. Any downsides to either. This would be buying a second PCM to tune and keeping one stock. I have a power commander on my VTX and I would imagine its the same type of tune I had on that. This is just a single or group Eprom chips correct?

Thanks,

Chris

You may want to gat a second pcm and keep it stock for warranty stuff.

A custom dyno tune is always the best as it isn't generic...keep in mind that you want all your mods done before the tune....get the mid pipes, catback, etc...etc first...

But if the are not that good, what kind of damage could they cause you?:dontknow:

I know with a DC Performance flash, I am getting a lot of experience, so its a flash I can trust. Not bagging on your guys there, just giving you my lame opinion.

Agree with both points. The good thing about the shop was the seemed like the enjoy what they do. They didnt try to push any product on me and when I told them I was looking at a flashed PCM from one of the mentioned vendors they said great product. He also didnt try to push his tuning and said if you want to try it just let us know. They are linked on the Roe page not sure if there is anything you have to do to get this other than contact Roe. All in all it didnt seem like a bad deal even for a few dyno runs alone.

Thanks all,

Thanks all,

Not sure what the shop is "pitching you"... but there are a few people on that page I would NOT go to....so take it with a grain of salt.
I would look at that page as a general overview of people qualified to install ROE blowers...and tune them....vs. a great place for someone to "write a program", tune, or work on your truck.... with the theory "there on there...they must be good". Not that I'm implying thats your though of it.
HOWEVER.... if they are good....(do your homework on them) it can be pretty sick.:burnout:
I know someone running a very aggressive tune right now with a written program (no problems with over 12K on it).

Your betting your motor on it though... the tune is everything.

Good Luck

Yes I couldnt agree more one listed in my state that we all know. He did jokingly say when you are ready we can stick a supercharger on it for you. He didnt really push any of his services which is what I like to see. He only answered the questions that I asked and mentioned that they offer dyno and custom tunes. The guy I spoke with has a Quad cab SLT and is tossing around the idea of getting a quad cab SRT. Like me he has a family and likes the idea of a quad cab monster grocery getter. I generally dont go into anything without research first and tend to overdo that portion. Was just a thought on the tuning portion.

Thanks,

Chris

WHAT KIND OF VTX YOU RIDING ?
I HAVE A 05 VTX1800F SPEC 2.
PUT COBRA PIPES AND PROGRAMMER ON IT.
LOWERED, BIG AIR KIT. GOTTA LOVE EM.
CANT BEAT A HONDA (MOTORCYCLE)

I would be very cautious of a "budget" tune. Our stock combustion chambers (and piston tops) have several distictions that make them VERY prone to detonation. If the tuner is unfamiliar with this engine, he will probably first lean it out and then add timing, which may seem like the right thing to do at the time, but will likely have a very expensive outcome.

Good Luck!

I think these guys are familiar with the engines they had several of them in the shop in various builds. I also saw an ASE cert on the wall and some sort of Chrysler cert with a viper logo on it? I had an 03 1800 before I sold it my neighbor was run over on his Harley by a expedition. This made me gun shy when my daughter was born. I almost bought another bike before I bought the truck. Had I bought the American Iron horse I wouldn’t be on this site. Here is a pic of my VTX.
