turbo vs. supercharging

so i been doin some diggin and thought i was set on putting a cetrifugal supercharger on my rig :D but... i have alot of expirience working on turbos and tuning them, (family trucking buisiness) and i know they both are great at producing power and producing boost but they cause lag. athat and they take alot of throttle to produce a decent amout of boost. and since my iron 8.0 has a redline of 4,200... which is better.. the centifugal is on demand and spools faster than the turbo's but the turbo's (i would run compound) but the turbo's would be better for daily driving...

either way i wanna end up wasting tires on demand :burnout:
 
A proper turbo set up will spool just as fast as a centrifugal S/C. If money is not an issue...go Twin Turbo. The Turbo system will more than likely make more power if set up properly. I would look into a liquid cooled twin screw if you don't want any lag.
 
Will you set it the truck/suspension up to perform at the track or will this be a dyno queen/show truck?
 
I would go turbo, I have had a ROE and now have a Paxton and I'm sure it's gonna be belt slippage issues again, no belt issues with turbo!!!!
 
Dang you guys hate dyno queens!! Hey some guys just like it to be a little easier gettin nasty on left or right stop light turns....

Well this is a 4wd rig, and my idol is rod hall, so a full carli pre runner set up is in the works. O and here in kansas if it ain't driven to the show, it ain't worth showin haha
 
so doin some reading and research has led me to believe i should say fock it to an iron 8.0 and just drop a gen 2 viper in my 95.... :banghead: only avalible forced induction system for the 8.0 is from paxton and its a centrifugal.. great if you have an engine that doesnt red line at 4200 rpm... i'd like a twin screw and those are avalible in aluminum 8.0's all the way up to the 8.4's... but nothing for my 8.0... so the question arrises once again.... will a gen 2 viper top end fit on an iron block?!?! i dont care how much machining it would take to get the damn heads to work... but would it??

This is a topic that has been thoroughly discussed. The easy answer is to call Justin @ JMB, tell him what your goals are and listen to his recommendation.

H used to offer a twin turbo kit. I don't think a single one of those trucks lived. A couple others tried too, with similar results. A Procharger will allow you to build as much power as your budget will allow.
 
personally i'd rather not put a turbo on this truck. i'd much rather have a belt driven system. i how a turbo works to a t, honestly its boring. i guess thats why im not satisfied with just throwing a centrifugal sc on this truck.. im looking for a challenge i suppose.

His motor is not the Viper V-10, so noone has really looked into upgrading the cast iron 8.0.
 
I would do some research and find out if the motor can even handle boost. Are the internals forged? What's the compression ratio? Then I would fabricate an intake and install a liquid cooled twin screw (easier said than done).

Multiple things really need to be researched before actually buying anything. What type of engine management system will be able to control it? What upgrades will the fuel system need? I don't know a lot about the cast iron v-10, but it seems it might just be easier and cheaper to do a transplant or just buy an SRT10.
 
4.00" bore, 3.88" stroke, 8.4 to 1 compression. all cast internals, the block is rigid as a train tho. the intake is cast aluminum. this engine is known for people removing the smog pump and installing a paxton centrifugal with minimal upgrades.

honestly the block is very stout and could handle any thing. (the block was designed to compete with the cummins diesel of its time.) im not worried about blowing anything per say.. the biggest problem with this engine is just how little the heads flow. and im looking into a gen 2 viper engine right now and crunching numbers as we speek..
 
im sure the engine will be able to handle up to 12 pounds of boost stock. but much after that hasnt really been recorded or tried as far as i know.. im not wanting to go over 9 pounds at the most on an iron crank and rods tho... if i keep this 8.0 it'll probably be one of the first iron vipers. and thats exactly what i want.

The Aluminum 8.0 twin screw(2.4/2.8L) hasn't been available for the past three years or so.
