Two more officers shot in the area

It's been a bad couple months here in the Puget Sound region for Police Officers.

On Halloween we had a Seattle cop shot to death and his partner was wounded. Just a few weeks ago, 4 Lakewood cops were executed in a coffee shop. On Monday evening two Pierce County Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call and were shot. One is in serious condition and is expected to survive. The other is in critical condition on life support and is unknown if he will survive.

Sworn officers are at risk 24 hours a day...and in my opinion they deserve much more respect for what they have to endure. Every time they pull a speeder over, they don't know if the driver is some crazy or dangerous person...when they are off duty, they never know when some disgruntled person is targeting them.

That is not to say that there are not bad LEO's there certainly are...but IMO they are grossly underpaid, under appreciated, and disrespected by some pretty scummy people.

LEO's rock...thanks for what you are willing to do every day...

Well, I'll go ahead and throw in my 2 cents.

I think basically there are 3 kinds of cops. The first group are the guys that look at it as a good career. Yeah, they do their jobs. In fact, they are (at least IMO) usually the best group of cops out there. They want to simply do their jobs and go home every night. These are the guys that are usually polite and don't mess with anyone that doesn't deserve it. This group to me are the guys that really signify the "protect and serve" mentality. They have friends outside of the force, and don't need everyone to know that they are cops when they are off duty. Believe it or not there are a couple of guys in this group that I consider good friends. One is retired, the other will soon. Last time I saw him he said as soon as he does he's growing his hair out like mine and buying a boat, getting a medical card and spending his time fishing. hehe

The second group is what I'll call the "true believers". They are usually more aggressive and have an us versus them mentality. They view the public as the enemy, and don't trust anyone that isn't a cop. While they might not be bad cops, they certainly seem to have a bad attitude at times. They believe that they instantly deserve respect because of the badge. We have a saying "the patch doesn't make the man, the man makes the patch", these guys could learn something from that.

Then you have the third group. The guys that became cops to make up for all the wrongs that have been done to them. The guys that were picked on and use their jobs to get even. These guys are often downright abusive towards citizens. It seems as if the ranks are being filled more and more with these guys. They have a chip on their shoulders and everybody is going to know about it.

I guess there is also a fourth group. These are the straight up criminals. And there are more of them than most would like to admit. Just do a google search and you will be amazed at the number of cops that are charged with serious crimes. They see the badge as a tool to get what they want.

I think a big problem is that the guys in the first 2 groups don't do enough about the last 2. The big blue wall of silence prevails. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand all about protecting your Brothers at all costs. But I didn't take an oath promising to do otherwise.

Remember, respect is a 2 way street. Generally you get what you give. Show me some respect and I'll show it back. But you can't demand it, that isn't how you get it. I've had a cop say to me "you can address me as sir", to which I replied "yeah, I suppose I could". I still remember when the citizen was the one that was addressed as sir or ma'am. Don't see that too often these days. Maybe it's just a reflection of our society as a whole, I don't know.

I don't know what kind of persons they were. It's God's job to determine that anyway.

I deeply regret that someone shoots any innocent person....

Well Jeff, I took no offense at all when I had someone that I called Brother shot and people pointed out that shit like that happens in the lifestyle he and I chose. No offense at all. And that was someone that I knew and loved, not a stranger.

So if you took offense from my post, that's a bummer. But I won't apologize, I did nothing to apologize for. I was simply replying to some comments made about respect for LEOs.

I'm a bit too close to this kind'a thing. And as a result, I should recuse myself from complete objectivity... All I can do is to repeat what I said about God being the final judge of who is good or not....

My only confident recommendation would be for others to do the same. No matter on which side of the argument they find themselves.

People are people are people. And that apparent redundancy only serves to explain that there's good and bad everywhere.

Some actually believe that there are more good guys who are outlaws. Others may shrink at the apparent illogic of that perspective. Is it really possible that there more good outlaws than there are good cops..... ? Has law enforcement's oppression of the common man become so overwhelming as to precipitate the supposition that outlaws are (the predominant) good guys?:dontknow:

That's a tough concept for the common man to get his head around.

I've seen pigs cops (when I was a freak-o musician in the 60's-70's and 80's) who liked nothing better than bashing heads with (what we used to call) a night stick. I've also been a cop whose sole mindset was dedicated (in heart and mind) to "protect the property and the citizens" of the community in which I served.

So who am I gonna believe.........?

I (for one) am yet to acheive the jaundiced eye that so distrusts my fellow man and dictates distrust of anyone with a badge. And my direct experience with law enforcement in the last 25 yrs (as a private citizen) confirms that cops are just people- good guys, bad guys and all guys in between.

Yes, cops do profile. And that means they're going to be a bit hinky around outlaw biker types like Bobby and Jerry. (specially Jerry, cuz he's really tall and has a tendency to flaunt his intellect a bit ) But still, if you're respectful to cops, they'll most often be respectful in return....(my opinion)

Tip of the day when encountering members of law enforcement:

DON'T CALL THEM "BOSS"..... (I'll explain to the few who need it)

"Boss" is a prison term used when speaking to the guards... and it will give any cop the impression that you've already done time.

The terms of choice are as follows:

State Patrol: "Patrolman"
City Cops: "Officer"
Sheriff: "Deputy" or rarely "Sheriff"
Marshall: "Marshall"

When in doubt, a simple "Yes, sir (ma'am) or "No, sir (ma'am)" is always good.

Drive safely and get home safe.............

Try to teach a child a lesson and the cops give you a ticket, Speed 4mph through a school zone and get a ticket in the mail, Go through a stop light and don't complete the intersection before it turns red and get a ticket in the mail. Miss a turn off on any bridge in the state and get a toll ticket. There are going to be many, many more cop killings until this state stops pushing good people to their limits.

But, in this case I was only trying to knock some sense into a vacuuous void.

Ronnie's anger as a result of all his bad luck has brought him to a point where he has made (in the very least) veiled threats at members of law enforcement. He did so by offering a list of PERSONAL grievances and concluded by suggesting a form of retaliation.

Ronnie's anger is a ticking fckin time bomb....
