Where is the compassion of our government? FTF!!

A California woman whose doctor says marijuana is the only medicine keeping her alive is not immune from federal prosecution on drug charges, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The case was brought by Angel Raich, an Oakland mother of two who suffers from scoliosis, a brain tumor, chronic nausea and other ailments. On her doctor's advice, she eats or smokes marijuana every couple of hours to ease her pain and bolster a nonexistent appetite as conventional drugs did not work.

The Supreme Court ruled against Raich two years ago, saying that medical marijuana users and their suppliers could be prosecuted for breaching federal drug laws even if they lived in a state such as California where medical pot is legal.

Because of that ruling, the issue before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was narrowed to the so-called right to life theory: that marijuana should be allowed if it is the only viable option to keep a patient alive.

Raich, 41, began sobbing when she was told of the decision and said she would continue using the drug.

"I'm sure not going to let them kill me," she said. "Oh my God."

Its our way of legislating morality. Cuz pot is the down fall of society...frickin courts and legislators.

While I am in no way sanguine regarding the phrase, "legislating morality", I do find the drug laws in this country to be refkndiculous........

Murder is immoral. Shall we make it legal just to accomodate the aforementioned assertion? Shit no. Legitimate legal guidelines exist for the simple purpose of delineating what is or is not morally acceptable to us as a society.

Eating infant babies is also immoral... Sould we now put them on our restaurant menus so we're not "legislating morality".... Hell no...

I've heard this truism bandied about for about 50 years now..... It could be thee most bogus catchphrase in the history of western civilization.

No disrespect to CarDude is intended. It's the phrase itself I find disagreeable.

Of course, many laws are not well written or even well concieved. And the rule of "state's rights" certainly is not being considered in the high court's decision because of the political ramifications surrounding marijuana.

Let's take out all the politicians and shoot 'em down like rabid animals.

Wow....

Marijuana drug laws are so goofy. :dontknow: I just don't get it....

What he said....

You have all heard it...if we legalized or just decriminalized the use of pot, we could clear prisons so that serious criminals could be held longer, and have over $2 billion dollars a year to pursue, prosecute, imprison the real criminals...

This law will change, everyone knows it...but the power brokers are just protecting their turf for as long as possible...

Conversely, when she dies, you now have 9 perpetrators guilty of 1st degree homicide.

I thought judges were supposed to be smart?

Good for her.
I've got $100 to put towards her Move To A New Country fund.

NOTE: Please don't pipe up (no pun intended) about the pros of marijuana use. While I don't condone it's use, this lady has A FRICKIN' BRAIN TUMOR!!!! Until you get your own, ssssssshhhhhh.

If I remember right from a article I read, that the city, county, state, and federal government passes on average 1500 new laws every year. Do we really need 1500 new laws every year? Somehow I doubt it.

All this is, is a god damn job's program for a bunch of assholes that would not be able to find and hold a real job.

Sorry, but our government system need reform, and they will not do it by themselves.

I was gonna go to a rally for the legalization of pot but on the way, I passed an IHOP and was reeeeaaaalllyyy hungry, so....

Cheech: Its me ,Dave,...I got the stuff, man...
Chong: Daves not here, man...
