Update on my header upgrade

I had a post a while back. Basically after the upgrade (Belangers, catless mids and magnaflow) I noticed I could not run in 6th @ 65 which I was able to before. I also noticed some backfire at startup and when slowing down, which leads me to believe I am running rich. I run 93 octane. Anyhow....

A couple days ago I threw a check engine light. The Roe sims do have red lights on them so they appear to be working. The truck is pulling hard, ran a Lightning from 50-100 and got a length and a half on him. So....

Would you recommend I have my PCM flashed? Maybe Boomer can ring in? It does appear my PCM was flashed by the factory in 05 based on a sticker, which is concerning as I have heard when they do this they detuned the truck a little. How much does it cost to have done? I can live without my PCM for a week if I get more HP and possibly fix my light. The only mods I have are the exhaust and a drop in K&N. I also have the clutch upgrade kit, not that it matters to the PCM. If I do get it flashed I will replace the thermo so that would be another thing that could be adjusted in the PCM. I will be SC (Roe) in a year, but I have a feeling my PCM wants help in the mean time.

Oh, I did pull the battery cable and ran another 20 miles, then the light came back on.

Turn your key on and off 3 times and the code will show up on the dash. I would want to know what the code is before I did anything just in case it is something unrelated.

PCM flashes are around $600 (I think). But you should go with a whole new PCM to avoid any downtime and have a spare in-case you need to take it in to the dealer.

Did you do the key turn three times trick to identify the error message? Its possible its not even related.

P0305. SHould have done that. Cylinder 5 misfire. Which cylinder is #5?

I know it is not misfiring all the time, or it would not pull as hard as it does. But that would make sense for the 6th thing. Just need to know which cylinder is #5 and I will get this thing figured out.

pull the plug, recheck and reseat the cap with some dielectric grease. Check connection at the coil if you can. Good luck!

FYI, I reseated the wire, drove it to work yesterday. Got the light on the way home. So I pulled the plug. The gap was almost non-existant!! I must have hit the plug against something when I pulled them out during the header install. I was guessing I may have messed up the wire when doing the header install, so this is a "nice" surprise. I can almost guarantee this will be the cheapest fix of a issue on my truck.

FYI, I reseated the wire, drove it to work yesterday. Got the light on the way home. So I pulled the plug. The gap was almost non-existant!! I must have hit the plug against something when I pulled them out during the header install. I was guessing I may have messed up the wire when doing the header install, so this is a "nice" surprise. dont feel bad, i had a customer change his plug wires, and didnt seat number 9. he drove it 100 miles to me on 9 cylinders, and it would still light the tires up-just not as good as before.
your truck was runing on 9, just shows how strong the Viper engine is!

It was not running on 9 all the time, just an occasional misfire. Funny thing is I beat a Lightning from a rolling 50 this past Saturday with this issue.

Maybe 9.5? Twasn't up to par nonetheless.

Glad you got it fixed! OBD certainly can make diagnosing this crap so much easier.

So true. I do hate all the computer stuff on our vehicles these days, but love it for what it can do for us....
