I just tried to make an appointment with a US Coast Gaurd recruting office and the guy told me that i would most likely not be eligible to become a coast gaurd due to my ADD, and Scoliosis. So i didn't even make the appointment. What do you guys think.

Go for it. With some disorders, you can get waivers...

Admire your sense of duty...the coast guard provides a great service, and offers a wonderful career if you enjoy the life.

Don't take no for an answer until you see it in writing.

Don't let him tell you that you can't do anything.

I turned 18 in 1969, and became eligible for the draft. Had a low lottery number and got called in.

I was rated 4F because I was allergic to bee stings, and I had, had stomach ulcers when I was younger.

Based on that, I'm not surprised they turned you down.

sorry bro, If you want to work on a boat let me know ,, there are alot of companys in the oilfield paying top dollar. And I feel like I am supporting guys like us who like to burn gas. you will never be happy in the military because they will turn you down for every job you want to do.

Panama City? Work on a boat? Please... tell me more about THAT job! I might jump on that offer!

my younger brother was turned down by the marines due to having 10 or more driving /moving violation tickets ---no waivers ---the army took him and now hes retired----go figure---guess he wasn't one of the marines are looking for a few good men type

The Marines are still looking for those good men.....

:D:D

Sorry, once a ho, always a ho I guess....

I've got a friend working on tug boats on the ohio river. makes good money! EMD, CAT, Cummins, Fairbanks Morse engines. 1,000 to 4,000 HP.

If they turn you down, call them back after OCT 1, most Gov't agencies work on a fiscal year that runs Oct-Sept and they have recruiting goals that they have to reach within that time, if they meet them early, they don't take anymore.

Also, if you ask for a specific job and they tell you they aren't hiring for it, wait until Oct....you will not believe this, but you can be told no on Sept 30, and yes the next day. Go figure. :dontknow:
