Did a few tweaks to the truck today while at Roe. Go to drive off and I get 1 mile away and the I notice a sudden drop in oil pressure. I manage to turn around, shut truck off and coast about 50% of the way to their shop. I crank up and limp it back to Roe. After lots of talking I've decided to yank the motor. The truck have a welded crossmember that doesn't allow you to drop the pan. You have to pull the motor out to take the pan off. I cut the oil filter and have no shavings, which is good. I cranked the motor for 1-2 seconds with the filter off, no oil pressure, at all. We've narrowed it down to either the pickup tube is broke (heard of this happening to 2 others) or a piece of debris got stuck in the bypass of the oil pump, causing it to stick and dropping the pressure to zero.
I don't think anything is hurt, but I have to pull the motor and check everything to be sure. It sucks as I was ready to make my first all out pass this weekend. A 10.70 was coming for sure. I was already in the 10.90's last weekend. I had a little vaccum issue I needed to take care of and we were good to go. This will put me down for about 6-7 weeks. Sucks to work a year and a freak thing like this happen. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.
The only good thing, is it gives me two months to figure out what to do about the tranny. Gotta sit back and watch what all these guys with a ton of nitrous run. It's a sick feeling to hear a lifter making noise and have a drop in oil pressure. Just glad it didn't happen while going 85mph on the way home. Would have had rods flying everywhere.
