I won an annual trip that my employer offers for sales and am going to Cabo. The wife won the trip 3 years back and that one was to Maui. On the events this year they offered a fishing trip in Cabo so I signed up. There is no info on the trip, type or duration. My opinion is that it will be a typical 40 or so passenger boat and a drop you line over the side type. This is because Im use to what they do on the Texas coast. I could very well be wrong on this trip so I ask anyone who has been are there boats like this in Cabo. In the event that I catch any fish worth eating what should I do in advance to be prepared to bring them back. I have read some stuff on the License thing and that it’s a good idea to get ice chest prior to going to bring the fish back on the airlines? Again I don’t plan on this being a "productive" fishing trip but my employer doesn’t go cheap on these trips so I will try and plan ahead. Also other than drink does anyone have any other recommendations on things to do in Cabo. This is the place that we are staying at anyone ever stayed here?

Thanks all,

Chris

I just realized I stuck this in the General Forum, can anyone throw it in the Off topic. Thanks,

Chris, I've been fishing off the coast of Cabo and it's pretty friggin cool. I caught a 150 lb or so marlin, it was an experience of a life time. We actually hired a boat and caption for just a few hundred dollars a day, it was only two of us on the boat. If you get a chance to do it, I HIGHLY recommend it...:D

Hey bro! I fish mexico alot and I can tell you your in for a rush. It's trolling with plugs or bait bigger than you can imagine! I caught a 300 pound or so black Marlin last year and he snapped the gear off but not before a long and awesome fight!:D

The nice thing is that the trip is paid for since it is on the list of things to do. The itinerary said to book the fishing trip quick since space was limited. A few hundred people go on the actual Cabo sales trip and Im not sure how many fishing spots they had. The wife is going to be in the Spa all day long so I figured I would take advantage of the fishing. The only thing I have ever seen on Cabo is open water Marlin fishing. To get all the people that registered for the fishing day on a boat my employer would need several boats and I don’t think they are going this. I think it will be a throw everyone into a big charter type and they will take us to some sort of structure and drop anchor? I don’t know if this is done in Cabo or not, it’s the typical south padre, corpus fishing that I envision will take place. I have seen some billfish caught on the "tourist" charter boats in south padre. I would imagine the fish in Cabo are seasoned and dont fall for that crap. Some tuna would be nice?

Yeah youre going to be out of season on the Dorado but you may have a shot at Tuna and definately lots of other sport fish. Blue and Black Marlin, Wahoo and lots of other stuff!:D

I have fished out of Cabo twice. I don't think they have any of those boats where 90 people are on board droping lines. Most of the boats are 27 to 45 foot and fish 2-6 people max. You should have a good shot at tuna and marlin now. I would not bring any fish back (pain in the ass) just talk with the head chef at the resort and tell him you are going fishing. If you land a big tuna, have all your buddies to dinner and shashimi for all!!

it sounds like youd be on a sportfisher not a party fishing boat. trolling for billfish is the shit. get ready for a fight if you land a nice one. we tournament fished for about 10 years and its the bomb. have seen 80 wide reels stripped in less than a minute off of south pass,la. had to put it in the water to cool it off, caught a 500 lb blue right after that. anyway youll love it. and get pics for us

I don't know of any head boats out of Cabo, only sportfishers. Reguardless you absolutely HAVE to get on a sportfisherman and troll for Marlin and other pelagics. There are few places that are better. I'm jealous!

Thanks for the info this is what I was looking for. Now Im ready to go besides this it was going to be a snorkel day with the dolphins and lots of schmoozing around. Maybe I can catch a rooster fish. The last big saltwater fish that I caught was a 42 inch jack crevalle off the surf. That was a fun fight and I havent had a saltwater fish every fight like that. Not to say that a 13Lb largemouth bass isnt as fun.
