Here's a question for those of you that might own the Valentine 1 radar detector...

I purchased my first V1 about 5 years ago for my DD and it has worked flawlessly! VERY few (if ANY, actually.. it's performance is near perfect) false alerts and no problems at all, ever!

I decided to replace the Escort detector in my 10 with a Valentine 1 (brand new... latest firmware) and this things goes off ALL THE TIME. It is supposed to have all of the latest, greatest firmware, POP, etc., but it alarms constantly in any area of business with motion doors, alarm system, etc.

I know there are a ton of customizable settings but I'm not sure what to turn on, turn off, etc. so I don't lose the reliability.

Any suggestions? I feel like a $29 Whistler detector wouldn't false alarm as much as this unit. By the way.. it DOES pick the up RADAR/LASER when it's there, but there is way TOO many false alerts compared to my old one.

Help! :( :( :( :( :(

thats what the adjustment that is under the volume control is for ,,,,,its a power level if i have mine turned up it goes off all the time vary sensitive like me :) ,,,back it off till your happy with it ,,also i have both an older one and newer one with the pop ,,,and the pop goes off more also way more on false alarms :dontknow: there is also a city mode too ;)

I would LOVE to have a V1.... If they would just pack it up in something smaller. It's like parking a f*cking Greyhound BUS on your dash. :argh:  :D

I believe the adjustment under the volume control is the "mute" level.. the level of sound that continues after the initial alarm sounds after xxx seconds of a reading. I don't think it has anything to do with the "power" of the radar.

What good is POP? Should I just disable it? I just hate all the false alarms. I tell people what a great detector this is (based on my original model) and they almost laugh when I'm driving around town and it is going off every 60 seconds!

My wife calls it my door detector.:( :D

Keep POP on.

You don't need the Euro freq in the US however. It is default to off. So as long as you didn't turn it on, it is already disabled.

Euro isn't turned on... why would I be getting so many "false" alarms with the latest firmware? The old version is fantastic!

and ill by your old one if you want ;)

hold the power knob down for 2 seconds, it will go from "A" to a half "L", then press it again, and it will to to a full "L"...full "L" is Logic mode, were it filters out a LOT of false signals, but also isn't going to give you the the full power since it is filtering out a lot of stuff....

I use full "L" in city, any "A" (all) on freeway....

I couldn't tell you from over the internet. You can send it here and I can compare it to mine? If it is defective, I can send to Valentine for repair/replacement for you. Mike's company is top notch.

Do you have someone close with one to compare to?

POP is a few millisecond burst to read your speed. It hasn't held up well in courts since it doesn't sample your speed over time (can be inaccurate).

the knob around the volume is the acknowlged alert volume- once the alarm goes off hit the volume button and it quitens it down to the setting of the outter volume knob. as for spoof detection mine goes off sometimes near stores also.

I actually have two now (one in both vehicles) which is why I feel this new one is way too sensitive compared to the old one.

I put the both in my vehicle to compare but the old one makes the new one alert just sitting in my driveway, but the new one doesn't cause my old one to alert. Leakage? Strange?!

You can't run two RDD in one car at a time. This forum will probably help you more than us.......http://www.radardetector.net/forums/
