Ok for those of you who have taken off the valve covers and had them powdercoated.

THe mesh/baffles inside the vavle covers behind the inside mounted metal plate.
- Did you have an unsightly amount of oil in the mesh?
- Did you try and clean them out? With?
OR
- Did you just leave them alone and put back in?
OR
- Did you purchase new ones?

60K miles on truck. Oil changed pretty regularly.

mine looked the same..i change my oil every 2500-3000. I did not clean them, just put em back in as is...

Just put them back in...mine looked much cleaner...but I have less than three thousand miles on the build.

dont leave them out ,,,you will not like hearing the rocker chattering a tad ,,i was surprised at the noise deadning the mess does.

How sure are you that wont destroy them? Shred them all to hell?

Now that i think about it i may just use simple green and my own pressure washer. Use a tip that spreads the fan out a bit.

???????????

If you are worried about them...have you checked with Dodge to see how much it would be to just order new ones? They can't be very expensive (famous last words...).

ironhead had it right...i beleive its just a sound insulating component. i didn't bother cleaning mine, they'll just get oily again.:D

WOW, it looks like about 2 quarts of oil gets absobed by them. Mine weren't that dirty, but I cleaned them as much as possible before screwing them back into the valve covers. BUT MAKE SURE TO SCREW THEM BACK IN PROPERLY. IF A SCREW COMES LOOSE AND FALLS INTO THE VALVES BELOW.. OOOOOOOOOHHH.....

Oh yeah, listen to IronHead's advice. He learned the hard way.
