What kind of paint have you guys that have painted there valve covers use.
Sanding, or primer required?? Thanks boys

I believe it's powder coated...

Original red is powdercoated. Not fun to get off.

Soda blast off. Better to do a bunch of light blasts then just trying to get it off in one shot.

DO NOT SAND BLAST THEM.

Sand, metal, harder grit medial will destroy the covers or at least the VIPER.

Take them to someone who knows what their doing....JUSTIN.

I would then powdercoat to your liking.....AGAIN JUSTIN.

Paint WILL FADE over time. PERIOD.

Just my $.02

SHU is right, better to pay Justin 199.00 to powdercoat them the color of your choice and they will be PERFECT, than to try painting them and ruin a hi-dollar set of valve covers.

yep...the powdercoater here in town blew holes in one of my covers:( (they are magnesium and very soft) i believe justin removes the coating chemicaly

OH SHIT i forgot about that.

If you go to your Home Depot and get...
The epoxy paint stripper by jasco it should work. Its red n gold.

I had my differential powdercoated and the heat/expansion made it all check after 3 years. I stripped it with the stripper.

Probably the best stripper i have used. Even over the bodyshop strippers.
It is pretty toxic with the fumes.

Put it on thick and cover with plastic. Keeps it from drying. I just hosed it down our sand oil separator. You may to apply a couple times.

For the final you can use MEK, Acetone. Should be right in the same section.
