Has anyone gone the cheap route on their heads? What kind of flow gains would be expected from a 3 angle valve job? For me, changing to the Gen 3 heads will net a 65cfm increase in peak flow.

The 3 angle valve job is really the standard way of doing a valve job, the contact area on the valve( labor involved) is what is charged for as it takes more time to get it just right. About the only difference is with an air cooled engine. The contact area is much greater to reduce heat build up on the valve.Air cooled engines usually have almost a complete contact to transfer heat away from the valve to the head helping to dissipate the heat buildup.

So IMHO your answer is no, as it will do little if any flow improvement.

Porting is the way, or buy better heads( with bigger valves) to get better flow numbers.

That is why I went with the Gen 3 heads. ALOT more flow than the Magnum Iron Heads and already has larger valves.

And you lost some dead wieght:rock:

Definitely over 80lbs. I bought perk's (elliot) old heads. Shipped his weighed 35lbs assembled. The Iron weighed 75.5lbs unassembled! The intake ports are much higher in the Gen 3 vice the Gen 1. That made a huge improvement in the airflow.

Oh , before installing the heads and manifolds you should Gasket match the ports. Get some Dykem (a colored liquid used to see scribed marks on metal)
paint the heads and manifold, put the gaskets in the correct place , then scribe (mark) the heads , manifolds and using a dremel remove the metal up to the scribed lines. Leave a little for the final smoothing/blending and that alone will increase the flow and prevent turbulence from the gaskets protruding into the ports.:D :D :D

Send them to me (or Taliban Dan) and I'll get the valve job and porting done, if you want. Exactly the same as Elliot's new heads. Flow numbers are already posted on this forum.
