I am thinking of getting a vec 2 for my quad cab. could i get more power from this than from a dc stage2 flash? also, how expensive would it be to dyno tune with it? thanks

Honeslty on the QC with the mods you are doing it probably wouldnt be worth the dollar, it is more versital, but the flash does more, as far as fan and shift points,
We have the vec on the qc and it really only made a couple more hp,

now if you went sc or turbo I would say yes.

and people charge from a very low of $500 to what mine will probably run $1000-$1500 for tuning

I agree w/ stinker.....go w/ a DC or BG chrysler stage II.....you'll prob gain more in the 1/4 mile and it will shift a lot better. Vec is more for fine tunin forced induction or NOS....for example....I'm most likely going to get a VEC so I can change the tune very easily w/ the cards so I'd have a 93 octane tune on motor, a 93 octane tune on NOS and maybe a 93 octane tune on race gas. Unless you are planin forced induction or NOS....you'll most likely just want your truck to run strong on 93 pump gas all the time which is what a DC flash will do plus make your truck run cooler and shift harder.

Damir...glad to see youre steppin up w/ the mods.....you could order that DC flash and get that installed before the Heffner event! With Headers/mids and flash you should be low 13's on a cold night!

I agree. The VEC II will be the way to go if you are going to boost at some point. But the DC flash has been a winner for those that do not want to go much further on engine mods.

It comes down to money. The flash does things the VEC2 can't such as (shift points, TRQ mangement, fan on earlier). The VEC2 can be used to tune the entire RPM band and you can have different cards for track use or valet. If you are trying to be cost effective then the flash is a great out of the box mod. It is 3 screws and 3 plugs. Takes less then 5 minutes to change. If you go with the flash I recommend getting a new PCM with the flash added. That way you avoid any down time and you have your stock PCM for warranty work.

If you think you will be adding some sort of FI later on then the VEC2 is a good deal. The VEC2 is going to be harder install as it hard wires into your PCM. So once it's installed, it's staying. Now if cost is not an issue then get both. Get your PCM flashed with a stage 2 sans timing. Then throw on the VEC2 and let it do your timing. Then you get the best of both worlds.

I realize I didn't quite answer your question. You will get better performance out of the Stage 2 flash because of the TRQ mangement and raised shift points. Better performance will equate to better power. Dyno tuning is usually about $75-125 an hour depending on the shop.

vpr......I think you'll be looking at close to $2,000 for a VECII installed and tuned.

That seems kind of high. VEC2 from Boomer is around 600 or so (I think). Maybe 150 to have someone install it if you don't want to install it yourself. 2 hours tuning would be about 200-300. So I would guess $1200 for the VEC2 and a tune. You might be able to get a used VEC2 as they pop up from time to time.

damn boomer sells them way cheaper than ROE then.....ROE wants upwards of $1,000!!!!

I could be off a little, but Boomer does sell them cheaper then Roe.

I woud have to ask Gary about that one, because he doesnt get dealer cost on anything from Roe, and from Roe they are a little over $900.

As far as installing for $150? I wouldnt want someone that only charged $150 for install to do mine, it takes hours to do it correctly everything must be soldeired to be done correctly

And a correct tune from a viper tuner ,I have never seen lesss than $500 and that was a minimal tune.

But if he is going to do only minor mods, the vec is nothing you want to even mess with, your gains are very minimal since the flash maxes everything out, you ar just waisting money.

Like Rice says, if you go FI or NOS then yes its a reall good idea , other than that , not worth the dollar,

You cant get a VEC2 anymore now (from Roe at least, only from dealer inventory), they are all VEC3's and are $1300. My good friend Joe Donovan at PBJ got the last ones from Sean, and his dealer price for the VEC3 is ~$1200 (dealer price for the VEC2 was approx $900). I got lucky and got a deal on a new VEC2 from a forum member, but havent installed it yet. While it is wired in, it has a new set of connectors so you can remove the VEC2 from the PCM wiring and use the connectors to put it back to stock (no cutting/splicing to put back to stock). It seems like the flash would be a better setup for a QC, but the only advantage it would have over a VEC2 for a RC is turning the fan on sooner (and price), maybe theres more that Im missing.

The more I thought about it my price was too low by about $100. I had a price quote of $700 back in May. 150 for the install was based off of 75 an hour for 2 hours. So even 4 hours would be $300. As far as the tune, it would be a minmal tune. With only intake and exhaust I figured 2 hours on the dyno at 100-150 an hour. But none of it matters if the VEC2's are no longer being made.

Bro I didnt mean it to come off as me bashing you:p

Sorry if it did, I was in a hurry:D

But yeah the thing is a royal pain to install:mad: a huge pain inthe ass, and if the leads are not soldiered correctly you will have problems, that is why most people end up hating them and getting rid of them.

and Roe is making a killin on the new so called 3, you can send your 2 in and they will change the chip and add a wire and then you will have a 3, jsut for info:D

But the vec will also change shift points too bro, as well as the fan, oh and rpm limit too.

I didn't think you were bashing me. People learn from our discussions, they learn even more when we have different opinons.

I didn't know the VEC2 could change the shift points and the fan. Thanks for the input.

Thanks bro, sometimes I get in a hurry and the things I say come out kinda bland;)

Have a turkey leg on me bro!

Hey try to make it over to bradenton dec 8th if ya can:p
