I have the VEC3 in my truck but my temp runs close to 200 degress sometimes. I dont know if it still has the stock t-stat in it or not but shouldnt i run a 170 with this computer?

200 is normal..... out on the highway mine runs about 170 ish but in traffic or if i'm grabing alot of gears it see's 200 easy

depends on what temp you have your fan to turn on at ,,if fan does not come on till 200 then just a thermo will not maintain 170 ,when vehical is not moving

That makes me feel better, i didnt think these engines should run that hot but i guess i was wrong.
Quite the opposite. These motors stock run very hot. Next time you take her for a drive and the engine temp is in the 200 range. When you shut it off go stand in front by the hood scoop and feel the heat coming out of the engine bay.

200 degrees is relatively cool compared to most vehicles. 220-240 are normal operating temperatures. That is one of the reasons the cooling system is pressurized.

The PCM will pull timing if your IAT gets too high. That will protect your engine from detonation which is the beginning of the end. Some of us use a $1.00 modification that fools the PCM into thinking the IAT is much cooler than it actually is...this inhibits it from pulling timing...for racing purposes.

the vec3 has nothing to do with the fan turn on. it is a piggy back system that adjusts the a/f and timing. in order to lower the fan turn on temp you have to send the pcm off to get it flashed, even with a 170 deg. t-stat and no re-flashed pcm you will still run 200.
