Just a question in regard to the PCM flashes.

Is the lowering of the fan temp really necessary? I ask this b/c I have been running a 172 t-stat for about 7 months and in the colder temps it stays right at the 170 mark and I do not have the flash installed yet. When its hot it levels off at 200 and if it is being driven drops down into the 180 realm (hot weather).

It seems to me these engines want to be in the 200 range with the way the cooling system is set up. By lowering the fan temp and forcing the system to eternally try to keep the motor cooler is this not going to put undo stress on the fan? Especially when its hot out.

When air is flowing through the engine it eventually cools off. Just curious about thoughts on this and reasons why the vendors lower the fan temps. The motors have a range of where they are going to run. The t-stat simply allows coolant to go through the system sooner not make it run cooler once the motor heats up.

With the lower t stat you eliminate the "heat soak" problem. Heat robs you of horsepower.........and thats why we are here isnt it? Where I live heat is something we have everyday.........the heat soak loss of hp was very noticeable when the engine got up to the 200`temps IMO.

Dan at DC Perf. posted a thread about why the lower t stat is a great idea. IMO,,,,, the truck runs better in the 170-180 range.
