Beats the shite outta me. I would have asked him but his English wasn't that good so that conversation would have been longer than need be. Besides, it was cold as EFF out there and windy. As you can see I didn't bring a jacket.

As for Africa I will be in Soyo, Angola. I hear it's waaay better than Nigeria and many other holes on that continent. I figured I go to experience it and rightfully say I was there. If I'm not digging the scene I'm hollaring "check please" and I'm gonna have to pass on a return trip.

I hadn't had a chance to post up my latest round of pictures until now. Today we take a peek into Africa. Since I wasn't encouraged to venture out and about on my own (like other places) my picture taking was quite limited (since the local police don't like pictures being taken of their natural yet.. um.. eccentric habitat.

These first few were taken at the base in Luanda, Angola when I first arrived. Just warming up the camera.

The next set were taken while on my way to the airport to go to Soyo. Again, they are all taken from within the car (like a safari) because it wasn't encouraged for me to venture out. I would likely be approached Papparazzi style for money or to buy whatever crap is shoved in my face.


Yes, this is an average side street.

As you probably noticed, those shacks are all homes. But notice how most all of them have satellite dishes.

Here we have pictures of the base in Soyo I stayed in while at work.

Here's the front door to my humble abode for the month. A significant downgrade from the places I stay in Norway. But the AC is cold and the cable TV is okay. Plenty of time spent playing XBOX tho.

Local corner convenient store that sells nothing but booze.

This next set is of the workshop where I train the locals and oversee that they follow strict proceedures when they maintain off-shore drilling tools.

These next shots were taken between my commute from the base to a resort we go to during the
weekends so we can unwind and relax with some sun, suds, swimming and volley ball.

Here's my wheels when I'm in Soyo..

Oh yeah, and this is a gas station.... I'll say that again.. A GAS STATION! Anywhere you see
plastic bottles in these pictures seemingly holding beverages, are really GAS to be sold as is.
What in the FFFFFFFF????

These are not back roads or side streets. These are actual main roads with
pot craters. SRT's of all kinds would NEVER survive here
(except for that one QC that was raised to off road status).

No they make the locals work in the sweat box. I have my office there with cold AC and water cooler... But I'm not the kind that likes cracking the whip so I move in and out of the office frequently.
