Volant intake installed

i have neve been a fan of putting plastic air intake in my vehicles. i have always held out for the metal piping and box on all of my vehicles. each 1 i have been very happy with of course you pay more for the metal air intake.

Well, I must give props to Volant. They've sent me (2) boxes of hardware. One with the grommets and one without. LOL I'll be returning the extra one.
The grommets they sent fit perfectly.

After starring at the intake like Natasha Henstridge was bent over it winking back at me, I decided that a 2nd bracket was necessary on the other side as well. I found a proper securing bolt (coolant overflow bottle mount) and proceeded to fab up a bracket.
Believe it or not, I actually broke a vise tonight. I've never done that before. :)

The bracket is in paint right now. I'll get some shots when it's installed tomorrow. It should help level off the scoop.

I sure do dig the sound at WOT. :D

I think the point of the plastic is its insulative value. Some people complain about the "cheapness" of the Volant plastic. I see it another way. It looks to be made of a very high density, closed-cell foam. That's why it's so light weight and "flimsy". If I were to design a CAI, I would go with said plastic. If I were to use a metal pipe, I would jacket it with some sort of heat wrap.

If you're gonna go cold, might as well keep it cold, right?:dontknow::idea: There's nothing structural (sans air-tightness) about it anyway.

As promised, here's a shot of the 2nd scoop bracket I fab'd up really quick. It's not pretty, but it works just fine until I can get something nice welded together.

Installed shot coming later today.
