The rear of the cowl is not open because the engineers said that it would allow underhood fumes and heat to be drawn in to the cab at low speed which is a nono on a street driven vehicle.
There is a line molded in to show where to cut out the back of the cowl if
you are not concerned with that issue.

Instructions to achieve a show quality finish on fiberglass components.

1. Thoroughly wipe down the part with a wax and grease remover to remove any waxes or oil before starting.

2. Thoroughly block sand the hood with nothing finer than 320 grit wet sand paper. Most prefer 280 grit. all areas should be sanded to promote adhesion.

3. Lightly primer the surface with a quality sandable primer surfacer. Let dry between coats at least 45 minutes, then wait 24 hours before sanding.

4. Block sand the primer surfacer with 400 grit sand paper, nothing finer. These steps should remove any possible surface imperfections.

5. Before painting the most important step is to apply a quality sealer before painting.
The paints that will be used and the resins in the hood share many of the same chemical compounds and the sealer acts like a barrier between the hood and the paint.
Many paint shops will skip this in a hope to save money, so make sure that your paint shop will include this step.
After applying the sealer follow the paint manufacturers recommendation for painting.

You are welcome. The intro price will be extended due to the timing of the Hoods introduction, just before Christmas. Many have committed descretionary funds, and after discussion, they don't want to penalize people for having a family.
