All right hang on for a few minutes as you read this...

My aftermarket radio died for a third time (goes into protect mode) so I was in the process of taking it out and putting my stock stuff back in. I send the HU to a place I have a warranty with and they send it to kenwood to actually have it fixed. After the head unit comes out I pull the door panel off to put stock speakers back in and I see a little water. I am thinking that if water is getting into the door panel and shorting out the speakers maybe that is why the HU is dying over and over again.

I shut the door and get the hose out and spray the window (at a lot of angles) then open the door and look. I see some water coming in where the mirror and the glass come together. I go and spray the other door and get the same results.

My question is are there any recalls or known issues with this? I have just about 2k more miles left on my bumper to bumper warranty and want to get this fixed but like to be in the know if possible.

I did not replace the rear speakers so I do not know if it is leaking in the rear or not. This would have to be where my problem is if it is shorted speaker wires because they are the only speakers that are actually hooked up to the radio (the front ones go through my aftermarket amp).

Please help if you have experience anything like this.... THANKS!!!!

The fact that there is a water vapor barrier between the door and inner plastic panel and multiple drain holes for water at the bottom of the door I'd suspect Dodge expected water to penetrate to the inside of the doors. Water should not be penetrating to the interior of the cab.

It shouldn't effect your radio. I would think the speakers would crack and pop, but not short everything out the radio.[/

Doors will get water in them, most factory speakers also have some type of water shield on them just for that reason.

hmmm... Good to know. I think there may have been a little bit too much the day I pulled the radio out. I pulled the door sill so I could pull some wiring and there was a little puddle in the track. Also the morning the radio went out there was a fine mist (almost like dew) on the inside of the windows. I was like WTF is this... All the windows and doors were up and secure.

Alright I will chalk up the water as normal. Thanks for the replys. I will have to come up with something to waterproof the components I have for the doors since they did not come with waterproofing.

Thanks for all the replies!!

amtrucker22. Try these. We used to install them on a decent amount of cars. They work great for keeping the speakers dry. They also help with the sound quality:rock:

They are called speaker baffles. They are made from foam.
