x2 for sections.
I usually work two sections at a time. Wax two sections, go back and take off section 1, wax section 3, take off section 2, ect...

I'll have to try that next time, I usually wax on, drink some beer waiting for it to dry then wax off. Drink some more beer cause I'm thirsty from all that work. End up pretty buzzed with spots on the truck:D

Meguiars all the way, best stuff on the market in my opinion. Their Polishing Compound removed every "circle scratch" in my paint from someone drying it off with a beach towel, Clay Bar, Polish, Wax and your paint will look like glass.

I do the whole truck clockwise, wait for it to dry, then buff it out in the same order

Whatever works for you is the best. You just dont want to put it on in the sun, like someone already mentioned. I usually just do a section at a time. I put it on by hand and for taking off, I use a buffer. Less elbow grease. You can pick up a cheap one at any home improvement whse for a few bucks. Just remember to change the bonnet often.
