A Victim Treats His Mugger Right

“If you’re going to be robbing people for the rest of the night,
you might as well take my coat to keep you warm…â€

This is the amazing story of Julio Diaz, who was on his way home one evening. His normal routine was to get off the train one stop early, to visit his local diner.
The station platform was empty, but as he was walking towards the stairs something dramatic and unexpected happened.

Suddenly a young teenager came up to Julio, pulled a knife and demanded money.
Julio just handed over his wallet, saying: “Here you goâ€.
But as the teenager turned to go, Julio said: “Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you’re going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm.â€
The story unfolds with Julio offering to take the teenager to the diner to eat with him. He explains: “If you’re willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money… I figure, you know, if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It’s as simple as it gets in this complicated world.â€
When they have finished eating, Julio asks for his wallet back in order to pay for the meal. He then offers to give the teenager $20 in exchange for one thing…
His knife.

It would be great if this was the norm....the reality is that most of the kids robbing a person would have took the coat offering as an insult and cut the victim.....I believe in just shoot the bastards..

According to a study I read, If you are armed you have .5 tenths of a second to respond to armed hostility. I am afraid I would have shot the guy. He approached with armed intent to do harm. RIP stupid kid.

No response to this statement is requested or required...

I would wager that those who say to kill the kid have never taken a life...and I would wager that of those who have taken a life most wish that their experience had turned out the way this wonderful story ended.

I agree Prof...I would hate to shoot anybody much less a kid....I almost did shoot a 15 yr old boy way back in my LEO days...kid pulled a gun on my partner...I started squeezing the trigger while yelling at him to back down..he did..probably less than a second from my hammer dropping...glad I didnt but I was going to.

I wish all stories would turn out like the one this thread is about...unfortunely most of the time it will not..so yes, if someone pulls a knife on me and I have a gun they better back down because I know from the above experience I will do it.....not want to but have to..

Well once anyone draws down on someone the rules change.

I fully understand. It is the thinking process before and in the process of pulling down that is so critical.

nice post bud, we do need more like him in the world:rock:

Ya.. since when do we start treating the thugs and gangsters as the victims? Prof must not eat the same kimchi as a lot of Koreans. I know from experience we have volatile tempers. A knife pulled on a citizen with a conceal carry license would 90% of the time end differently than this story. Case and point: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/southflorida/story/966133.html

This is a good example of gun control, a steady hand.

The armed thug has made his decision, the next one is yours.

...evidently I should put my gun down and ask him to go out to eat!?!?!?!?!?

There is a simple 32 cent answer... bang

Sounds easy enough, doesn't it.....;)

Personally, I do not believe the story. I could be wrong, I have been and likely will be again, but I think it's BS.

Your missing the point. The point is HUG. Hug a tree, hug your neighbor, hug the off switch, hug a felon.

BTW, 32 cents won't buy much of a bullet pretty soon.

I can't find good kimchi to save my life up here. :argh:
