Maybe this is not so weird..but just not sure...

Ok.. I just installed my gauge pack I got from Boomer which included the AEM AFR, and the Autometer Vac/Boost gauge.

At idle I show 0 vac/boost (which I expected.. supercharger not installed yet = no boost!! duh!!).

But what I would expect to see is about 10-12 in vacuum.

I checked the vacuum lines for leaks, I have the MAP sensor installed under the dash that came with the gauge, and am teed into the vacuum that goes directly to the brake booster.

But here is the even stranger part... when driving it hard I actually am showing some boost (about 3 psi!!!) how is that possible.... then when back at idle it settles back to 0.

When I pull the vacuum line from the from MAP sensor I can feel/hear the vacuum.. and then the gauge goes to about 10psi.

Any ideas...

I have had the same problems with at least 2 of the Dodge SRT vacuum/boost gauges, specifically low/inaccurate vacuum and unreliable boost(off by 4psi of boost).
I finally went and replaced them with a mechanical vacuum/boost gauge and trashed the map sensor, electronic system and everything works perfect.:dontknow:
Its a shame I dont have the receipt for the $239 gauges from dodge or they would be eating them.

You are right, it shouldn't be 0.

I believe it should be about 15 Vac at idle.

I had the same problem. I traced it to the power. Your power connection has to be something that stays on as you turn the key (push the button). If you have it hooked to any other power source then you won't get the automatic zeroing of the gauge. This will also throw your boost off by 4-6 psi. I think the problem is your power connection. Let me know if this fixes your problem.

I figured out what the problem was... and feel a bit like a bonehead because it was so stupid.

Coming off the brake booster was a one-way check valve, which once it had vacuum, would close, and keep the MAP sensor from seeing the vacuum from the motor.

So I moved the T-connection to before the check valve, and now all is fine, I get a contant 16-18 vac, and I started and stopped the motor several times to test it.

Scott.

cool, that was what i was going to say, about th check valve, it will act like a vacuum chamber, not showing manifold vacuum. to offset the cost of the guages, i am going to ship out your lowering kit, and leafsprings etc on my dime. plus anything else you haveor need in the future. i appreciate you and your business bub. thanks

Thanks! now that is what I call customer service.

You would not happen to have a larger "X-metal" decal, one that might fit on top of the stock Paxton heat exchanger? There is some scribing and part numbers on the casing that looks kinda ugly (looks to be from Paxton) and I want to cover them up with a "X-Metal" decal.

sure, hey the chroming question, was that the part you wanted chromed? if so thats cool to do, just not the water chiller i sent you we make.
i think that paxton welded a few of the bottom plates on the top of the aftercoolers, i just got one back from the chromers, and the stupid engraving you described was chromed!

I was going to chrome the chiller you make, but wont do it now. Yeah, that is the exact engraving that I am talking about, and if you have some larger X-metal decals, I can just stick that on top of the paxton aftercooler, and try and "take away" from the engraving.

sure thing, i have to do the same thing, stupid engraving:confused:  :D

Maybe the guy at Paxton that built those aftercoolers was dyslexic  :dontknow:
thats nicer than what i said about him when i got mine back from the chromers, i was just as mad at the the chromers for not polishing the engraving off before they chromed over it
