What a dilemma...wife's company asks her to go to India

It's a shit job.

And I speak from experience about shit jobs. I have been assigned these types of jobs a number of times in my career. I always do my best regardless of whether I like the job or not, and I succeed at pulling it off.

Based on my performance at these types of jobs I'm in the top 5 paywise for my skill code within the company.

And Roy is correct, they reward you for your performance. Do the job, and the pay will come.

And believe me, if she does the job well, she will have a good job to come back to.

I think we are both a little disappointed in where the assignment is, as well. Her company is global, so we where hoping for Hong Kong...not a turd world nation :)) ).

Grim Reaper, not a very compassionate title. They don't need your wife to do their dirty work. Sounds like they need a GMO with some balls not an HR director. And what's next after this trip. Where do they send the ax women next. There is a balance in life between work and home. Keep work at work and then turn it off when you go home, that means the damn Blackberry too! How did we every get into this mind set especially when you work for someone else.

Welcome to the corporate ladder...the higher you go the farther there is to fall, but the rewards are almost always greater. This is exactly why we have no kids...two careers = no time leftover. We probably need to hire a Nanny for the dogs ;)

I understand the no kids concept...but its still ok to go through the motions!

The girlfriends dad had a similar situation, but it involved the military. They would not let him retire and said if he did one more tour in Germany he could retire and on top of that would get a promotion before he shipped out. He got his promotion but was not told that with any type of promotion you have to stay in for another 2 years or something like that. So untill something else comes up he is still in the military.

I have been called out to jobs where they needed someone there yesterday. My company has always treated me good. Other than the last minute jobs. It is just how I am. They call, I go. The only downside for me has been now I think when something comes up they will not hesitate to call me. Kinda like the Life cereal commercial "Mikey will do it, he does everything" I think every now and then you have to tell your boss no. So if the both of you are having some reservations on this don't do it. Someone else will be sent that can do the job. If I was the only person that could do it, that is different story. But I am sure there are other people capable of handling this situation.
