Soap/water and a spray of Napa supplied RU-Glyde....diluted 50%. Comes in 1 gal container and is marketed as a lubricant for installation of Farm/heavy equipment tires. Does a nice job in detailing plastic/rubber without all the silicone found in other products. As backyard painter I hate silicone!! With 100K miles many have commented my engine bay is as clean as any they have seen.

Diluted Simple Green and water and a very soft brush for cleaning, rinse with deionized water.
For under hood detailing spray, I use Pig Spit, originally for Harleys, works just super on almost everything.

Simple Green or (for really nasty engine bays) Red Stuff. I use several different sizes of brushes including tooth brushes to get into all the tough spots. After drying everything off, I use the same product used on my tires... Autozone Tire Shine (aerosol). It's cheap, thin, last a long time, and "dries" quickly so it doesn't sling all over. I only do the engine bay BEFORE I wax the car, as the dressing usually gets on the paint.

simple green in a spray bottle (diluted appropriately), wipe it all down, lightly hose off areas that can be. dry it all. then I spray Black Magic on the plastic and wipe it in real good.

Looks like a neat product. I like dressings in a can much better than any spray bottle. So, I might try it. Thanks for the tip, Jack! :rock:

Excellent thread. Today I got #1900 stuck in mud while rolling on wet grass. After trying everything I could to get her free I realized she dug herself in good. Eventually I found someone close by with a HEMI 1500 4x4 QC to pull me out. I had to open the hood to get the chain around the frame. In the attempt the HEMI kicked up tons of mud trying to get a grip of the earth beneath it. #1900's engine compartment was peppered with mud slung everywhere. I was going to snap a pic of the engine bay, but most would just throw up with the amount of brown goop all over the intake manifold and valve covers. I'm glad she was pulled out despite the mess. The stuff came off her hood and face easy thanks to previous waxing, but the engine bay will need work. Looks like I'll be Simple Greening the hell out've her powerplant tomorrow.
