What is our bucket Airspeed?

What's your speed in the lowest RPM for 4th gear? Should be close to max range. 55-65?

I don't know for sure. I will have to look at the RPM's.

Not true. Just because the rpm is low, does not mean the engine is operating efficiently.

I didn't say it was the exact speed, but it should be close due to the low RPM/high Trq engines we have. So what is the answer then? Easy to say no.
So you are saying it isn't between 55-65 then? "Not true". :dontknow:

Plus, if I was a betting man, the aerodynamic effects will be a bigger factor than engine efficiency at these speeds and rpm.

I too can't drive that slow for long. My MPG is much better at 65 than 75.

This is why I really don't give a shit anymore. I said in an earlier post that if I had the energy to explain it tonight I would. Believe what the fuck you want. I don't give a shit.

Wow, bad day huh? :dontknow: Hope it gets better for you.

Eddie I have a cat 550hp eaton 13spd, with 3.55 rears and 24.5 low pros in a 4964ex

up to 35,000 if I stay at 68mph I average 6.5 to 6.8mpg I go to 75 it drops to 5.5 or 5.8mpg

If I am in ohio and run 60mpg I averave 5 to 5.2mpg

Silver is right , it depends in my truck where the torque is at its highest point, and for mine its right at 1400-1500 rpms and thats where my swet spot is.

also if the headwind is up them mpg goes south.

There seems to be an area where the wind resistance takes over also, and it seems to be around 5mph , form there up the mileage ,or I should say it takes more power to cut the wind at the higher speeds.

Smoke,

I bet max endurance would be close to the same too. Nevertheless, Max range is the convo.

As you know D (drag) = Cd x p(roe) x V2(squared). So as speed increases the drag increases dramatically, Cd and p won't change. So the high 50s MPH, without driving to try it out, would probably match up. I doubt engine efficiency would have as a dramitic effect as drag on MPG. Not slamming anyone, just my point of view. I am probably MOTO here, but just driving it on the highway and watching you MPG. If you have a Scan Gauge, you can actually monitor the MPG at 1 sec intervals for a more precise reading.

I know from experience driving long dists in our trucks, that anything above 65 the MPG is going to increase and below 50-55, just too slow to safe on the highway and probably too low in the RPM for power to push us efficiently.

It would be interesting to know the exact speed.:burnout: And I don't think we'll find a simple equation to handle all of the variables (drag, gearing, engine efficiency, tire size, temp, etc).

We are not talking about your 1/4 mile speed at the Nats! :p :p :p

Smoke it seems as thought our filter is an extended service unit, it is located on top of the fuel tank and serves aslo as a fuel regulator. Couldnt get a pic, but I guess its fine, i just really like to change them, sthis sucks may have to change that.

Sorry Bone. That is why I have been just lurking and not posting much. My attitude has been really Fu#ked lately and I have been trying really hard to not piss anyone off. Sorry my friend.

Best of luck on your deployment, and be sure to stay safe. I may want to give you some shit when you return.

65-70 mph for me. At that speed I see my DTE go up. anything above or below doesn't work to well.
BTW I am up to 13.3 mpg ave., never reset that damn thing :D

when i drove home from the Nats i used acetone in my tank 8oz per tankful as Boomer suggested and i picked up 1.5mpg, mileage went from 13.8 on the way out to 15.3 on the way home......my cruising speed was somewhere between 70 and 80mph

Is there any side effects from doing this??
