what is the HP difference between short vs longtube headers?.And waht is the HP gains yall are showing with aftermarket headers?
Also are there diffrence in install between brands?
Should I use a certain exhaust with certain headers for max HP gains?
After install I will be sending my PCM back to dc performance for a new tune. Can they really make it put out more HP with a tune set for headers? And are w only talking 1 or 2 hp with tune compared to no tune?

Wow that is a lot of q's.....

Short answer is they are NOT worth it....:D

long answer...

If you are going to bother...go long tube and get some trq out of it....the gain will be 15ish rwhp from the headers and 15ish from losing the cats.....the tune post header is a good idea not from just a hp perspective but from a A/F as the headers will lean you out a bit....the exhaust (muffler) Magnaflow is the best answer....

since I have already deleated my cats ,,,,,what you are saying is that for 2500.00 dollars I would only be gaining about 15 RWHP?

You can't put a price on deafening folks and setting off car alarms as you drive by. Oh, and inducing spontaneous incontinence!

THAT IS EXACTLY what I am saying... ....a few points..

When we used to put headers on Small blocks...:

1) the stock small block manifolds were much more restrictive than the manifolds on these trucks

2) a 15-20 gain on a 250 rwhp/ 3200lb car is more impressive than a 15 rwhp gain on a 420 rwhp / 5000+ truck

3) the headers for the small block did not cost $2500

and you forgot the continuous flow of testosterone induced by the guttural growl of the uninhibited expelling of exhaust gases, especially under boost.

I hope you are talking about your truck....?:D

OK, well I have already deleated my cats, got the PCM tune, Got the 170 t-stat, and a cold air intake and caltracs

What other "bolt on " performance upgrades can I do besides nos or a supercharger or turbo.

Other then the headers not really. Do you have a performance exhaust?

Stinker's Detroit Locker Rear End.

15 inch rear wheels, slicks.

Get rid of the dumbo ear sized mirrors...go with Cal-Vu's. I really like the sound of my exhuast.....but hind sight site...I'd rather have the cash. Install is easy enough on the headers. Get factory gaskets if you go that route. I swaped out the throttle body as well. I really think my truck gulps ....Big Air and shoots it out the arse real well now :)....why are you not fishing ?

Nowwhat is slightly underestimating your gain from the headers because he doesn't like them (he always does that).:p JMB Justin dyno'd before and after with Belanger headers as his only mod and he picked up over 20 hp and 20 trq PEAK. Possibly even more in some parts of the powerband.:burnout:

I believe Justin's truck put down over 470 rwhp with Belangers, catless mids, CAI and tune. ;)

The long tube headers are definitely worth it if you are not supercharging or turbo'ing.:)

As much of a bitch Nowwhat is, hes right. :D :burnout:

Im not sure I understand how the headers matter less with F.I., Power adders actually need better exhaust and requires less intake. I.E. heads modded for chargers have bigger exhaust ports and smaller intake ports.

spend the money on heads / cam in my opinion..especially if you plan on spending 2500 bucks; even if you put in a extra 500 bucks. If need-be, spend money on a tuner (vec3 / aem) and you will gain WAY more then headers.

I usually don't get involved in technical discussions, cuz I have such limited experience... But headers and forced induction don't seem to live well together because of the heat issues.... I was told this by both Dan Cragin and by Lance keck at Vortech.... also by my bro Mike Brady.......

If heat wasn't an issue Id'a probably had headers long ago..........

Absolutely, or you could smoke a huge bowl 8 days of the week. :elefant: :canabis:

i only put ONE header on, and my 1/4 mile went from 13.9 to 13.5. not sure what she would run with both headers on. I still haven't gotten that passenger side header fixed so that it will fit past the tranny :-(

15 hp seems a bit low but every 10th helps!
