This has been an up and down week for me. First I was wanting to trade the truck for a 4x4 and then decided (wisely) to keep it. Now that my head has been officially pulled from my ass, what mods does everyone recommend? My truck is a stock '04 RC. I see a bunch of posts about PCM's and CAI's and lowering kits and X-Metal shifters and flashing something or others etc.etc. Not too much of a gearhead so dont really know where to start or what works with what etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first step that you need to do is develop a plan of what you want out of your truck. Once you know what you want, then we can help answer your questions.

Plan your work...decide what you ultimately want...then develop the critical path...this will avoid getting off the track...you can do it as your budget allows.

For me the supercharger was the goal. Since then it has been a search for traction, and mods to assure safety and longivity.

Went like this: Headers, cat delete, Magnaflow, 170 thermo, VEC III, meth injection, Centerforce clutch, Viper slave and master cyl, Raptor shift light, Roe top mount twin screw, MSD wires, Boomers Gen IV shifter, Moe's Driveshaft Loop,...

Next steps: caltracs, Detroit Locker rear end, Boomers Lowering kit.

Thinking about...cam up-grade, forged pistons and rods, light spray...

Mine is a quick street machine...and that is all I want it to be.

This is one strategy, but your planning will assure that you are working toward a goal...plan your work, work your plan...

actually Prof, that sounds about exactly the route i wanna go...i dont care too much about running it down the track, i just want a fast street truck with the most important thing being RELIABLE (which stock almost qualifies as) the truck is no good to me if it is constantly broke down. BTW my son just turned 16 on Wednesday. Bought him a small chevy blazer 4x4 with the 4.3. Now i can help him build his truck and get my 4x4 fix as well.

Wow you didn't do anything to the bottom end with the SC install?

Not required. Only running 5.6 lbs of boost...the twin screw top mount by Roe is designed as a bolt-on mod only requiring the meth injection to cool incoming air at WOT and the VEC III to adjust the air/fuel and meth injection via the pcm.

That is what I meant when I emphasised "the plan"...with thought up-front, you can design your build to suit your needs. If I were going to boost more I would have built the internals...but that was not my goal...just wanted a streetable mid 12 second truck...I am just starting to learn about traction, and rear ends...it's like being back in grad school again...but not getting laid...

I think this build will last as long as any stock build...I don't beat it, but I don't have to back down from the Z06's either!

Paxton and be done w/ it......super reliable, and perfect for the street....Power comes on nice and smooth.

Like everyone say's plan on your budget and what you want the most.

I went with everything at once. I was greedy and knew if i did not get it, it was not going to happen. All but the S/C..

I have X-Metal Lowering, CALTRACS, CAl-VU mirriors (yes RICE look). K&N CAI, PCM, HID Lights, Headers, Exhaust (All from Boomer)

Then inside i have the whole package entertainment system.

i want a quick street machine too but i dont want a sc. So i am starting out with justins (JMB) air intake a pcm upgrade and some of justins traction device.

then i will top it off with a 75 shot and call it good

Of all the posts about Performance, one thing I don't hear enough about is Rocker Arms !When I built my 340 Dart, the cam had specs on it,but those were different depending whether you used 1.5,1.6 and so on !!!Has anyone just done a Rocker Swap ?? I believe it's Boomer that has a set of Valve Cover Spacers to do such a thing ?? It would be a viable performance upgrade with stock reliability !!:dontknow:

PAXTON!!!!!!!:burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
And I,ll Do the install for you
Super reliable,You can drive mine and see for your self!!:) :)

Welp, depends on your pocketbook but, I'd look at a PCM reflash and a CAI to start. You get a lot of bang for the buck. Maybe some basic exhaust work: magnaflow muffler, cat deletes to keep the cost down. As you learn more (from these guys :D ) the cost goes waaaay up according to what you want. Start slow and work your way up. You learn as you go.
