I'm wanting to paint my valve covers black with red lettering, is there a type of paint I should use or should I just powder coat them?

I would have them powdercoated, call Justin I just ordered from him and it was a pleasure, I give him a strong endorsment and will buy from him again, thanks again Justin.

ya man you won't go wrong going with jmb. check his website out for all his powdercoating services:D

Well the idea is to save some bucks. I'm sure he'd do a great job but I blew my cash on the paxton. I have a local connection if I want to do powder coating if painting it normally wouldn't work. Just wondering if there's some really reputable paint I could use. (unless powder coating will just look way better)

All your standard Urethane paints (standard automotive type) would work just fine, however, since you want it two toned youll need (should for looks) to clear it. That being the case your costs go way up. It would be a toss up when compared to properly powdercoating. btw...even with powdercoating Id have it cleared due to two tone application.

Yeah, gonna clear it either way but I think I can manage since it's small. I guess I'll just get a price check on the powder coating and go from there. Wonder how hard it would be to smooth them down like glass... Haven't seen anyone else do that.

go with jmb justin, in my opinion I think it would look good with black and silver letters

Chuck is 100 % right on the money...I would Powder coat them if it were my truck and for aesthetic reasons a durable clear coat as well....Good luck on your project and post up those pic's when you get it done

I plan to get mine powercoated by Justin in the near future but was bored one afternoon and painted mine with high temp spray paint I picked up from Home Depot.

dangit... I really wanna do it myself but I dont want it to flake off in a year or two or w/e... Is that what will happen if I do use engine paint? I'm impatient too so that's part of it....

It really should not flake off if you prep it right. Powder coating is the right answer, but paint worked for many years before there was powder coating...and what's the worst case, you have to redo them in a year or so...

hmmmmm.... thats a good point, worst case I'll just have to powdercoat them anyway soooo, since I'm tight on cash for mods I think maybe I will just try it myself, well, unless the local guy can do em pretty cheap anyways.

I painted mine with the factory color yellow/clear coat paint. I did it myself seeing how my pops has a paint booth, but from what I hear the paints are supposed to hold up to some ridicolous temps. Only thing that was a pain was all the masking over the viper logos, wanted to keep their brushed finish.
