I'm a distributer for commercial radio company. We have a contract with US Army and supply many radio's for them. Obviously, Military spec's high end encryption that the radio factory will furnish with their orders. Military sets final codes via a Key Loader.

This encryption is available for general public however its expensive and requires the use of the Key Loader for final settings by the end user. Customers purchase this key loader to keep for themselves for obvious reasons.

Scenario...I have a dealer who works with local Indians. Indians have specified they want this encryption. Dealer orders then delivers.....radio's dont work. Dealer was not aware of this Key Loader needed. Indians refuse to purchase the $5000 Key Loader. Dealer is freaking out that he has to buy this. Bottomline...I have a key loader so issue is solved.

However, what I really want to know is WHAT THE HELL ARE THE INDIANS GOING TO BE DISCUSSING VIA RADIO THAT REQUIRES MILITARY GRADE AES ENCRYPTION?!!!! Besides the fact that I will know the key codes they are pretty stupid!!!! :dontknow:

If anyone will be in the Grand Canyon area....you have been warned!!

They are plotting how to take back America and run everyone else out. I hope they succeed.

You should encrypt a radio for yourself and listen in...then keep us posted. Us zoinians gotta stick together!:D

Are they American tribes that own casinos? :dontknow: ;)

No Casino with this tribe, however, we will be tying internet connection through the radio system.... Still doesn't answer why they would need such high end encryption....! :dontknow: Also, remember, Indians are not american per se. They are a different country that just so happens to be located within the continental US.

Known as a Sovereign Nation.

Next time I pass you on the freeway during rush Hour you better wave :p

First off, they're the customer.... Secondly, they're a sovereign nation.

Isn't that enough..........?

Just a thought... Does anyone think that the National Security Agency (who has the authority to allow or deny the sale on any Military Spec encryption device) think that they would allow it to be sold if they could not listen if they so choose to do so. I may be a little "Old School Military Minded" but if they couldn't listen in they should be fired....

I find that quite offensive, that you find our people as NOT American.... :dontknow: :( We (my ancestors) are more "American" than anyone else can be, really, as they were the NATIVE people of this land. Tim was correct in saying there are Native American Nations, but all Native American people born within the borders of the USA are citizens of the United States. We are subject to the same laws as everyone else as well.... only when there is a crime or other legal issue that is tried on Reserved lands, will the tribal law supersede the US law and court system. You can read more about this by studying the Indian Citizenship Act of 1927.

Jake,
Thanks for expressing. I was a bit tongue in cheek with my comment... I work with over a doz tribes throughout Arizona and one thing that always comes up in our discussions is a bit of ribbing about who is really American. Its all in good humor....on both sides. Obviously I need to be reminded that my "audience" stretches beyond the Arizona border. And remember I posted this in the non offensive section :D

Simple.....

Some things are just not discussed on an open channel. The reasons for that are good reasons for those who need it

Simply, it's there choice to communicate in private

I would guess, Chuck, if you really wanted to know.... you would ask THEM..... But, it really isn't any of your business, is it?

When I'm up there later this month I will ask them. To be honest my concern is my dealer over sold them with this feature. Fact is they could have gone with a scrambler or if they are serious about security a rolling scrambler. If this was a concrete company, hospital or even the freaking sheriff's department I would have posted the same scenario....very few organizations would even consider this level of sophistication. And in my experience the customer would be far better informed i.e. knewthey needed a Key Loader at the very least than the dealer or even myself. I think they just blew $50,140 on a feature that is overkill.
