Everyday this is driving me crazy. You all know the history of the STS system and how I'm the only surviving system left (That we know of). I'm debating on taking the system off. I love the sound of it and the TRQ (620) throws you back in your seat. But I'm paranoid that I'm going to blow the engine. I think every person that lost an engine with the STS had issues that I was able to identify. Either over-boost or tuning. So since I have 20K miles on mine I still think the system can work. I thought about going with larger injectors (with extra fuel to the #3), VEC3 (I already have this sitting in my garage) and meth kit. But on the other hand I thought about dropping the truck off at Roe and having them take the STS off, put the VEC3 on, tune it and just go back to NA. I would also have to get some sort of intake and new exhaust. I would love to get a supercharger, but that is too much money, especially considering all the money I dumped into the STS. So here I sit thinking about what to do. Try to salvage the STS or just go back to NA. Any advice on any of this, including ways to make the STS work?

thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.. sun'll come up tomorrow, beat your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there'll be sunnnnnnnnnnnn................. Keep it, it's only a FI system, you got a good BOV? TUne? How much was that system? would it've been easier to go Paxton?

You have a good idea : VEC 3 ,meth injection, larger fuel injectors, make it work.
Then again,it isn't my truck. If it WERE mine,I'd take it off.

Given the track record of the STS, if it were me..I would pull the STS..I couldnt afford a catostophic engine failure. Seems sorta like playing russian roulette keeping it on in my opinion...Like Mmmtorque says..sell the kit, putsome Stykers and a cam, etc, on it..I would think that you might get the similar numbers?..Im not sure on that..

yeah He Picked up 3/10 seconds Becasue he was only running 5 Psi.
From 12.7 to 12.4 Not very impressive.

Yes it has a BOV and 2 waste gates. It is tuned way on the safe side. The STS system uses 4 extra injectors that spray right into the intake vice larger injectors to replace the stock ones. The kit when I bought it was going for 8500. I got a good deal on mine so I paid quite a bit less. And yes a Paxton would have been easier.

Dump it you picked up what 3/10th of second with it.

I went from a best of 12.7 to a best of 12.4. Now the 12.7 run was in great weather. The 12.4 run was hotter weather, but the boost was turned up to 8 psi or so. Dyno numbers went from 438 RWHP and 500 TRQ to 480 RWHP and 620 TRQ. I was very disappointed in the HP numbers. But the STS and other claimed 550 RWHP at 5 psi with meth. So I'm short about 70 RWHP with a tune and meth.

Flying low I talked to Ted May the tuner In San Jose and he said the Paxton is much more practical. They make Linear boost curve. Turbos hit So Hard and things start wearing out.

How many times do I get to vote?:dontknow: ;) :D

The way I look at this is this way. If you can afford to replace the engine, then keep it and see if you can get it to work. I have to admit, the odds are against you there. If you cannot afford a new engine, then dump it.

In my opinion you have been beating the odds so far, but at some point you will come up with snake eyes.

I say keep it and get it tuned RIGHT...or ditch it w/o a tune.

Im sure its a system that could work...but it needs some TLC

With the vec, you can data log, set fuel maps, injector base sizing and so on....

Go with the VEC III, and water/meth and have Sean tune it, and ask him for his opinion. If he says pull the STS then pull it and put a 150 shot on top of the N/A engine...Sean will not steer you wrong...

go with mmmmmmtorques set up....

cam and a little head work...500+ rwhp and peace of mind.... ...

I would only sell the STS as components....just a kharma thing....

then like mentioned a 100 shot...say hello to low 12's all the time...

This might sound strange, but what if you put a larger injector on the #3 cylinder only.

Granted #3 would be too rich, but this would buy you all the time in the world to find, and fix the problem.

Just a thought.

Bill.

I think you are still on borrowed time Scott. Since ALL of the other ones blew, I would drop that kit like a hot potatoe. Just isn't worth the risk IMHO.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.:)

Scott, it really depends on what you want to do. If you want to keep the truck forever and not spend a lot of money on it, take the STS off. If you don't mind spending some money on it, start saving your pocket change, wait till it blows and build it stronger.

Got to remember, Big Asp tried to build it stronger and it blew again.:(

I would have to say take it off. The previous track record dictates it is not a reliable set-up.

Thanks!
