Wheel coating question

I saw this today on a Vette vendor website. Anyone ever heard of this "new process" or know these guys??? It says they can do them in chrome or black chrome...which might be interesting.

I don't understand why you would need to clear coat a good quality chrome wheel?:dontknow:

Same reason you want a base coat clear coat paint rather than a single stage. Durability. Although I am not sold. Instead of the chrome taking the hit the clear will. I guess the question is what is more durable, a conventional chrome plating finish or a clear coat??

It doesn't sound to me like this is a conventional chrome process, but it might be. It says there are no harmful chemicals used in the process which would make me think it's a different process altogether, but I'm only guessing. Maybe I'll give them a call just for giggles.

Remember that the clear coat is a clear powder coat. Powder coating is much more durable than paint.
