Wheel Coatings?

I recently fixed curb damage to two of my rear wheels (that I, the retard caused) by sanding them down and polishing out the scratches. My question is that it seems I have polished off a coating b/c when I used the Mag polish it turned black on the new shiny spot I created. Does anyone know what the coating is on the wheels? Is it just a layer of clear coat they put over the aluminum wheels? It is not a big deal, was just wondering.

i am pretty sure that it is a clear coat but not on all of them someone correct me if i am wrong

Yes,And the clear coat will give a little bit of a yellow-ish haze.

Yup got it, I noticed that. Will put some clear coat on it when I get chance. Was almost positive thats what it was but needed the blessing of the experts. You guys are smart:hmmmm2:

I agree the chrome looks awesome unfortunately I am missing the coin to add that bling right now. Thank you for planting yet another idea in my head though.
