Is it common to get a good amount of wheel hop on agressive starts? I've had this happen to me several times when I start getting some wheel spin? Its rather annoying and pretty pronounced. Today I was driving her pretty hard on the way to the gym (I drove my "other car" to work) when I gave her a good amount of the "go" pedal while rolling a bit from a light. Its been in the 20's here lately so the tires just started to break free once the revs climbed beyond 3K, then the shakin started!! The road had a few imperfections and It seems as thought when the back wheels hit any sorta bump under heavy throttle, the tires break free and the wheel hop comes into play. Is this a common problem, and are the Calvert Racing Traction Bars sold by X-Metal worth the $. I dont see many sigs listing the bars as a Mod. Just curios if they change the ride (besides the hop) at all and the overall feel? Also wanted to know if the bars are compatible with Garys lowering kit?

Thanks

Almost forgot- I've got an 04 RC and so far I've got a Magnaflow cat-back and K&N Intake, trucks got 15K miles.

Caltrac bars are killer.....

they work peerfect with a lowerig kit.....well worth the $400.00...wellworth it

Glad to hear it. I might just add them to my ever growing list of future mods! Are their any handling characteristics that change with the addition of the bars. I remember the trac bars on older muscle cars (my old 74 Gran Torino) caused a bit of a rougher ride. I see your bars where shortened, was this due to your drop? Is it necessary with Gary's regular drop? Thanks for the info.

Just curious, but do you get any shaking or vibration from the tires at high speed?

It could be that you need your tires road force balanced.:dontknow:

I haven't heard of any significant handling differences... But, they aren't like the old "slapper" bars.

You do have to watch the speed bumps though. ;) :D

Only had the occasional wheel hop but as Nowwhat mentioned, Caltracs fixes that ;)

My opinion is that the truck rides smoother with the Caltracs installed and a little preload.

You might have something else going on there. I have NEVER had wheel hop with my truck. :dontknow: Not even once.

Agreed :dito:
... but as Mike stated above....Boomer'd and Caltracks... much better bite, and should eliminate "the Hop"... very rare that we ever hear of it though:dontknow:

Me too neither........

In fact, purely from observation I see a distinct difference in the reporting of various suspension issues on our trucks. Could it be that there's actually some significant differences in them......?

mine would hop a little before I lowered only at certain times....then once i lowered it it hopped like crazy when doing a prestage burnout w/ slicks. The key to burning out and not getting wheel hop is to get the tires spinning quick and keep the revs up around 5,000 and wheel hop when bye bye.

Caltracs are great worth the money if you plan on running at the trak often......handling wise on the highway didn't notice too much difference.

Traction bars are a prudent mod.

So heres so more insigth into the wheel hop I experience. The tires were recently balanced by a local race shop. I'm not to sure of what type of balance they did but it cost me a friggen arm and a leg ($120). This is the same shop that did my header install on my Magnum and helped me solve a CEL issue I was having with the high flow cats (no small feat with the Hemi!!). No to sound like an idiot but I just asked them to do it without questioning what method. I kinda had sticker shock when I got the bill!! Back on topic-- Its always been frigid out when I've experianced the wheel hop (below freezing). Maybe these tires and cold dont mix to well!! I have spent some time under the truck due to a squeaky exhaust that turned out to be a clamp that was facing the wrong way and rubbing on the rear leaf spring. Everything looks normal and no leaks from that horizontal dampner. This might just be a temperature related issue. As far as frequency, Its happened a total 3 or 4 times.

Seem to get worst with the lowering of the Truck. CalTracs fixed it!
Seems to happen more on the supercharged Trucks as opposed to the normally asp'd. Trucks.

Quick

Lowering my truck exagerated the hop...the Cal Tracs "quiet" the ride.....all in all ....they improve everything...

Guess its settled, one more must do mod to add to the ever growing list for this winter. So much for saving money!! Thanks all for the info, it really helped. Just a side note, this post has some great info in it. For the most part it seems like most of the lowered or forced induction trucks have wheel hop. Guess the factory setup (the weird leaf spring with the bump stop and the horizontal dampner) is just barely sufficient to handle to power of this truck when stock. I figure the reason I've experienced the hop when it's been so cold out is the truck starts off with good traction but once the tires break free all the power that has the axle starting to wrap, gets released causing the axel to jump forward and rebound very quickly causing the hop. When its warmer the truck tends to stay hooked up pretty good but the cold pavement and the perelli's dont soom to like each other. Just an observation from drivin her hard today.

I had wheel hop at about 80 degree weather or so and truck totally stock. I dont think that its a weather issue. I think that its more of a traction issue. Tires bite hard and the shocks are just not srong enough to hold it down....02c

Thats the point I was trying to make (traction), but in my case it's been common in the colder weather becasue of the loss of traction due to the cold road and tires. I feel this comes on all of the sudden durring hard acclerating when the tires break free. This is more common with cold tires and a cold roadway. Plus the shocks have little to do with the initiating of the hop and once it gets going, nothing will stop it.
