Years ago, when I was young and happy, once a month I would close my eyes and throw a dart at a map of the US. Wherever the dart landed, I went, or as far as I could go in that direction as the time allowed.

I loved those trips.

San Fran is out, I'd rather spend a day in a festering shit hole than a day in SF

Ok Jeff here ya go. Drive through South Pass via Rock Springs to Farson to Lander. Not sure on the highway numbers. Not much for scenery untill you get to the mountain pass. Visit South Pass City. It is gold mining Ghost town and supposed to be one of the most original old west sites around or somethin like that. Probably about another 90 miles you can see split rock along the Oregon trail. Also in the area is Sinks Canyon were you can see where an underground sinks and comes back up, take a hike to see the waterfalls. And I am only 30 miles from Sinks Canyon. I think it is about 6 hrs driving time to Sinks Canyon from your house if you dont stop at South Pass City.
