What flywheel you guys recommend on a stock truck? Shop said they will cover labour if I cover the flywheel (if you've been following my tranny/warrenty issues).

Also... when i'm in gear (loudest in 3rd and first) if I give it gas and let off right away the gear box makes a 'slapping' sound... if i give it gas then let off, then give it gas and let off... it makes a hell of a racket. It just feels loose...? I had an old 5 speed that did the same thing but just assumed it was warn out.

Rebuilt Tranny and new clutch... what could be causing that? Shop said it was 'normal'

And I read some guys saying flywheels are 125 bucks... where can i get one? And im on my phone so cant search. thanks!!!

Sounds like excessive play in the diff. Or wornout u-joints or both check the play in the drivetrain it might be normal . Your action with it might not be normal! Don't bounce the petal like that it's a heavy truck!

I know... I don't do it. Well once, when I was trying to figure out what was going on. Didn't do this before the rebuild though. Took it to another tranny shop and they thought something was up with it.

Take the tranny back and have them recheck their clearances! There is to much play somewhere in the tranny! Don't let them tell you it is normal if it didn't do it before the rebuild . The aluminum case gets chewed up easily if something isn't put together properly!

Where could I pick one up? I dont want to go through local dealers...

when did you sneak that in there? thats the ALum. one with steel inserts right?

the Fidanza? yep, thats the one.:rock:

just a tad over 50K ago. gettin close for a refresh. probably go with a new insert, bolts (arp flywheel & pressure plate), new hydrulics & a Spec 3 from Stinker

:rock::rock::rock:

Thanks guys. Anything I should look over when the flywheel is being put in?

Truck has 13,000 miles on it... would pilot bearing still be okay? Or still change it just cause it will be opened up

i had bout 10k when i did mine & ran the one that was there. to my knowledge no probs

Thanks. So all I can find is aftermarket lightweight flywheels... and i do not want to spent 400+ dollars. A couple guys were saying they were around 125.00??? Or did i just dream that. hahah

i'd change it just for grins since you'll have it apart anyways

YESSSSS! Pilot bearing, throwout bearing, whatever you call it.. That should be changed for sure while it's all apart. And it's a cheap part too. As for the flywheel, I HAD Fidanza, and it would rev up quicker. But last year when I replaced the tranny the flywheel was all beat to hell. I chose the OEM flywheel this go around and I like how it feels. But that's just me. And the OEM flywheel wasn't near $400.00. $125.00 sounds about right.

I had the Fidanza and hated it ! :mad:

OEM should be $100- $140 new at any Dodge dealer

I would normally recommend a vendor,but they are super-heavy and shipping is high.

A heavy vehicle needs a heavy flywheel.That was just common knowledge years ago (somehow I didn't get it then :( ) ,but seems there are those who believe it works now.I tried it and it is just too light for a 5,000 lb truck.

It would be a great addition to a light weight Viper car,though.

how so???:dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:

if i remember right, i don't remember any real difference in how the truck acted.

i like the weight savings, espicealy on the front end & there does not seem to be any service life difference between the 2

On mine I had to keep giving it more gas and working the clutch while creeping in traffic.After taking off and rolling I didn't notice it as much.Truck just "felt" better with the heavy one to me.That was with 4.10 gears.It may feel entirely different with 4.56 or 4.88 gears :dontknow:

If it is working for you,then I wouldn't worry over it.It just didn't work for me . Truck just felt "wrong" for some reason.It needed gas to move forward,where with the stock one I could just ease the clutch out.But,you have to remember,I am VERY nit-picky over the smallest stuff. :D
