which red-top for our application?:dontknow: (part number or model number would be nice):D optima hasn't responded to my e-mail:mad:

From what I understand,,, any Optima battery will do.
I ended up going with a yellow top with all my stereo equipment even though a red top would have done just fine. I wish I could have gone with a red top to match all the stuff in my engine bay but I have a polished bracket that would only fit the yellow...

Can't go wrong with an Optima! Great choice, just be FORWARNED.................................. its going to be the last battery you buy! LOL!

well...i know they come in different cranking amps and i think different dimensions:dontknow: i'm on the boat otherwise i would go out to the truck and check. i think stock battery is 760 CA?

Is there a weight difference between the Optima and the factory battery? If so, how much? You guys all know me by now, I'm so weight conscious being naturally aspirated and all.

hey patrick! quit hoeing up my thread! this is serious bidness'!:fight: :D :vroam:

Forgot to mention............first big south swell hit this week. You would have liked it.......solid 4 footers!!!! Remember in Hawaii that would be an 8 foot wave!!!:elefant: Then there is the wintertime 4 ft wave.............thats even bigger!!! LOL Normal people would say its more like 10 feet!!:toilet: LOL

the yellow optima is 750 amps to the red which is 1000 amps...... :)

The optima battery does not have a great reputation on the Viper sites. The optima comes in a deep cycle and standard cycle. I personally would not use a deep cycle battery for an engine application because they are designed for a discharge - recharge kind of cycle and typically don't have as high cca's as an automotive battery. Read about batteries first before choosing

if ones not enough use two thats what i did.

The D31A, D31T and D31M (below) are new models. D31A connectors are SAE automotive-style top posts. See Model D31A top-view & more info here. The D31-series batteries are Optima's largest. In addition to being providing deep-cycling ability, the D31A, D31T or D31M also serve as incredibly powerful starting batteries, with huge initial amperage discharge to spin hard-turning motors.

I used the big D-31 yellow in my linc.
Reason: Other battery left me stranded after parked listning to stereo.
D-31 after 6+ years still seems to have unlimited capacity.
Above sight is easy to navigate and very informative.
Good luck!

That web sight was just for info and spec's, I paid about 175.00 total
for the D31(1100amps) from JEG'S, but that was 2002.

there have been numerous posts and I want to learn if I am missing something, but why buy $150-170 batteries when a lot of these trucks are like collector cars and sit for great periods of time and I feel first IF you have this situation, you should put on a battery disconnect , then buy a good battery that has a 3 year full warranty like a Sears or Costco or Auto Zone or wherever a vendor is convenient to do the replacement if needed... any good battery that offers a full replacement warranty, then you save money ( should find these batteries around $80 or less...) just my $.02....
