................... clutch set-up do you guys recommend for my truck ? The centerforce seems to be the favorite with the lighter flywheel. What are the pros and cons of the lighter one vs. the stocker ??
I am also changing the gears, so 4.56 or 4.88 ?? I will not be racing it on the track (well, once or twice) and I take it only occasionally on long trips on the interstate. The stock gears just don't satisfy me.What about gas mileage ? Which would do better ? Stock , 4.56,4.88 ? Truck is 04 RC.No blower.

I recommend the 48RE...:D ;)

I have the Centerforce setup and love it. Only other choice is the ATC? I think thats the name. Only a few guys have it as far as I remember.

After much thought I have decided to go with 4.88's. Not sure or really worried about gas mileage. I drive less than 4k a year. There are several dudes with 4.88's and all love them. Marc T even went from stock 4.10 to 4.56 then finally to 4.88's and loves them! We have two overdrive gears and I am not worried at all about loss of top end.

The aluminum flywheel is less weight therefore the engine will accellerate quicker.

Gears 4.56 is as large as you can go without changing the carrier.

Fuel mileage will not change enough to notice.

The carrier is what you actually bolt the ring and pinion to.

Inside there is a ring about 7-8 inches diameter bolted to the carrier, and the driveshaft is connected to the pinion, which also has teeth, the pinion touches the ring, and depending onthe number of teeth on both gives you your ratio 4.56.
The stock carrier will only hold a ring large enough to support the 4.56 ratio. to go higher the carrier of the ring will have to be changed.

Price? I am not sure, but maybe one of the guys that have done it will chime in.

OK, I understand what the carrier does, but is it a "bad" thing to have to get a new carrier?

No , not at all, It is just a tad stronger and beefier, to hold up to the larger ring and pinion. You see when you go to a higher ration say 4.88 you actually have more teeth on the ring, which makes it more brittle. So the carrier itself will have to sustain the strentgh .

So its not a bad thing to change , jsut a very safe one:D

I have the viper lightweight flywheel and atc clutch assembly from Woodhouse. I didnt get to "get into it" with the previous setup so its hard to objectively tell you the improvements. I do have to watch my shifting as the truck revs up to peak rpm pretty quickly.

So..........with 4.56 or 4.88 gears and a light-weight flywheel,I will have to shift much sooner ????? With the combination of lower gears and quicker revs that would only make sense. I am not sure about the flywheel.I definitely want the gears but i need more info on the flywheel.

i have no complaints on my centerforce / fidenza. Truck definately revs up way quicker than stock. That flywheel is a work of art!!! has to be 20 lbs lighter!

carrier

I can not remember exactly what I paid for the new carrier-some where around $200. not a big deal, otherwise Stinker has explained it well
