Truck has been making a whing sound for about 2 months now (3 of those weeks it was sitting in the tranny shop), hasn't really got louder or worse. Thought it was my tranny but am leaning in another direction. Sounds is louder when truck is cool. Also when i have in P / N and rev the engine the noise is there but not loud. When I put a load the noise increases slightly. Thoughts is something hydraulically driven is low on fluid. Coolant level is ok, steering fluid is ok, oilis ok and recently changed along with tranny fluid. I used a k&n filter which I used last time but no whine fom the last one.
Any input on where I could check or start looking to for the noise?

What oil filter are you using?

Sorry I meant I used K&N filter as the oil filter again. Last time I had no problems with the K&N though.

if ya can grab the bottom engine oil cooler line when its makin the noise.

if ya can feel the noise, probably the oil pump by-pass valve

I personally can not use any other filter other than the OEM black filter without getting a whine on cold start ups, That includes the Viper filter.

I appreciate the input.... If I feel noise in the lines and it is the bypass, then wht is the fix?

Replace the bypass valve. I have almost 70,000 on mine with out replacing the valve, But i must say i probably am pushing it.
