As some of you know, my actual member name is Django...(Jang-go')...The letter "D" is silent.... For this reason, my brother, the Sickness named me "Silent D". When I came here to the new forum, I began using that name in Mikey's honor....

For those of you who don't know, the name Django belongs to the greatest improvisational musician and guitarist of all time.... Django Reinhardt......

For all those who love the old gypsy string jazz of the 30's, here is Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli (violin) performing their signature song, written by Django, called Minor Swing..............

This shit is not for everyone.... But for lovers of real music, I believe it is among the best stuff ever played.....This shit IS the shit.

Enjoy,

As a fellow guitar player, I must say I agree with Tim above. Django was a fantastic player.
While Tim and I come from different eras and have slightly different tastes, I can absolutely appreciate all Django brought forth to music and guitar playing. If you get the chance, listen. It'll be worth your time.

The top of my heap is a gentleman by the name of Shawn Lane (RIP). I was introduced to his music when I was 19 and haven't stopped since. His skill, structure/composition, and humbleness is amazing. He's my Django.

Here's a LONG video of Shawn at a local Memphis bar (Sneaky Pete's), sitting in with a cover band.

You'll get a little Herbie Hancock, a bit of Cameo, and some Level 42.

My favorite Shawn song of all-time, "Gray Pianos Flying":

(the version on his album 'Powers Of Ten' is even better)

Music is not a competition, but if I were to have a "team" of players, Django and Shawn would be on it.

(Tim- I said I'd introduce you to Shawn's music. I figured this was as good an opportunity as any. :) )

The second link misdirected me, I believe......Sorry to say.....I never saw it.....

Shawn Lane is certainly an accomplished mechanic......

Maybe it was the sound quality... I really couldn't hear much of what he was actually saying..... Some guy was talking over the mic in places, but still, I was unable to get any clear and distinct definition in his notes, phrases and values.......

Sorry, I guess for that reason I really wasn't able to fully appreciate his playing.....

This is Eric Johnson on Nitrous. Very amazing. Thanks for the post. Not as much sole as Steve Ray but More speed then anyone I've seen before. Enjoyed Django's string bending as well. Excellent post for guitar player slash motor head. Please don't talk about audio equipment. :)

.............I won't say it..................Nope, I'm taking the higher ground.........

My musical taste spans from Huddie Leadbetter to Primus.:D Give me Big Bill Broonzy or Hound Dog Taylor any day. That won't stop me from listening to Korn or Greenday. If I have the extra half-hour: Iron Butterfly! While my playing is 'british invasion' style. My listening knows no bounds.... except country :aetsch: ...white-bread-blues gets old fast.

No doubt; D'jango's got it alright.

Heh heh....I know where SilentD is coming from....and what he won't say. LOL I feel ya, my man.

I got a call from a guy a few weeks ago regarding my product. He said to me, "I build guitars for the best guitar player in Texas." I said, "Ummm....that's about 73 different dudes. You're gonna have to be way more specific."
:D

The Sneaky Pete's video is from the early 90's, when shred was in. These days, it's tough to find an 8th note. "Powers Of Ten" was also early 90's, but considerably more soulful than just a ton of notes crammed into 4 min. songs. Shawn also played all the instruments on that album.
His later records, including his collaborations with Jonas Hellborg (bassist) and Jeff Sipe (drums), showed him in much more of a fusion light.

Hey V8eater: PRIMUS SUCKS! :)

Sounds great ! but needs more cowbell

JK ;) I appreciate all types of music and particularly talented guitar players.

I'll take some Bob Dylan :D I like the harmonica

Django is great! and Shawn cooks it.

And my all time favorite Lawrence Welk. I love Polka. And my cousin Don HO and his tiny bubbles :D Thanks for sharing :burnout:

I'm still taking the credit for the B-I-N-G-O based song.;)

...and (Silent)D'jango was his name-o!:D

Hasn't yer wife ever told you that "fast" is not always a good thing.....?

Quality is everything in music...... It is an emotional statement, a portrait...

If fast was the prime objective in music, a hive of bees would be "virtuoso".....

I am so alone..................... I'm almost sorry I posted this........
