WHOLLY GOD ENOUGH ALREADY!

I searched the forum and didnt notice any threads on my problem. But here goes, today i went to the dealership to pick up a new dip stick because my old one broke, simple enough right? Well while there my tech threw it in and went to test it because it was a little different than the old one i had, he pulled it out and no OIL! None! So we thought maybe the engines still to hot and well wait for a few and it will be there so about 20 min later same problem NO OIL ON THE STICK! We waited well over an hour and nothing so my tech started putting in oil, I was 2 quarts low. I just had a oil change about 1500 miles ago, so how in gods green earth was my truck low by 2 quarts!???? Do these burn that much oil is that normal or is it a ring maybe anyone else have experiance with this????:dontknow:

No oil burning issues here and i got almost 10,000 Kilometers. 5000 of em FI.

Is there any possibility the dip stick in shorter or marks are in a different place than your old one?

It should hold 8.7 quarts regardless. Good luck.

Or they thought it was a regular motor and didnt put enough oil in it.

i would change it and put in the right amount of oil and make sure the dipstick is the correct one.

There is a fubar in some of the early manuals that says the truck holds 11 or 12 qts. This is a confusion due to the diesel engine. It actually should hold 8.7 quarts.

Maybe to be sure, the oil should be drained and start over. What if the dealer has now overfilled it because the new dipstick doesn't read the same as the old stick.

1. the new dip stick was longer than the old one
2. 10 quarts in last oil change i was there helping out the tech and watched him do the change

if its longer than the old one, you are still reading low then. they should both be the same length. somethings definately wrong

Yea we talked to the guy in parts and they dont make the one i had in there? anymore they only make a similar 2005 about 1/2 an inch longer not a huge problem. Plus thats whats listed for the 2004 now so got no choice in the matter.

Sorry, but my truck only takes 8.7 quarts, so it sounds like 10 was overfull already .... You may want to double check your manual.

Maybe some nice member will go measure their dip stick for you so you can compare it with yours.

Yea that strange, i watched the guy pour 10 fing quarts in and they all fit i couldnt believe it! I was like wholllly sh*t that all fit! Plus according to the dodge computer there it said between 9-10 quarts?:dontknow:

I checked my garage queen. Her stick is 34 3/16" from where it hits the top of the tube to the end of the stick

and it is 33 1/8" to the max full line .....

I would make sure and document all the facts so when your rear main seal goes out (in the event they have overfilled it) the dealer will replace it for you at no charge. It's hard to believe they have no 04 dipsticks left????

dude, that half inch longer is at least a quart worth, or probably a quart and a half. drain it, change the filter, and start from scratch.

Mine is 35 1/2" from where it hits the top of the tube to the end of the stick and is 33 to the max full line :dontknow:

That happens dodge will be buying me a new one or fixing this one, its documented in the system and my tech will fight for me im a good customer plus hes a friend of mine. He wants to wait till my next oil change to see where my oil goes, and if it breaks it on them as it stands.
