He wants to wait till my next oil change to see where my oil goes, and if it breaks it on them as it stands.

GotRidOfTheHemiForThis said:I searched the forum and didnt notice any threads on my problem. But here goes, today i went to the dealership to pick up a new dip stick because my old one broke, simple enough right? Well while there my tech threw it in and went to test it because it was a little different than the old one i had, he pulled it out and no OIL! None! So we thought maybe the engines still to hot and well wait for a few and it will be there so about 20 min later same problem NO OIL ON THE STICK! We waited well over an hour and nothing so my tech started putting in oil, I was 2 quarts low. I just had a oil change about 1500 miles ago, so how in gods green earth was my truck low by 2 quarts!???? Do these burn that much oil is that normal or is it a ring maybe anyone else have experiance with this????:dontknow:![]()

"Yea that strange, i watched the guy pour 10 fing quarts in and they all fit i couldnt believe it! I was like wholllly sh*t that all fit! Plus according to the dodge computer there it said between 9-10 quarts?"
Of course it fit. You could pour 15 quarts in and it would fit. Doesn't mean it's right. You are not pouring sand in a f*cking boot for gods sake. Oil does not fill up the entire engine cavity.
Wait until the next oil change? He's your friend and a Viper tech? Sounds like a damn idiot to me. You have no idea how much oil is in the truck and he says to wait?
Okay, so far my dear daughter has given you some important information. It's the length of the 2004 dip stick. Go measure the one you have. Not that hard to do and it will identify or eliminate that as a possible cause of the issue.
If it's not the same length then you need to get the correct dipstick for your truck. And don't believe the bullshit that they don't make it anylonger. They are required by federal law to supply parts for 7 years. Sounds to me that they are just giving you what they have.
And for gods sake, change the f*cking oil and put in 8.5 quarts as the manual states. It is the correct amount for 04/05 trucks.
ViperTruck2933 said:As previously stated, your 04 model should use 8.5 qts of oil with a standard size oil filter. If you are running the oversized performance oil filter you might need more than 8.5 (possibly as much as 9.5) but no more than that unless your truck for some reason has an 06 oil pan on it. :dontknow:
And your truck SHOULD NOT be burning 2 qts of oil between changes. It shouldn't burn 2 qts of oil in 30,000 miles IMO.
ViperTruck2933 said:I must have just got lucky I guess.I run mine HARD and it doesn't burn oil.
Stanimal said:i would change it and put in the right amount of oil and make sure the dipstick is the correct one.
The 04s call for 10w-30w.Venom Power said:I have to clear this up... What's the correct oil weight? I've been doing 10W30 every time. Yet, last week when I went to Dodge to buy a Mopar filter the guy in the parts department said it took 5W30... Is he pulling my shaft or was he right? I never asked before and I went and bought a whole case of Royal Purple 10W30.. :dontknow:
GotRidOfTheHemiForThis said:Ok well heres the issue, it not that we dont know how much is in there, its that it took 2 quarts to even get a reading on the dip stick! We knew we were low, but for my engine to burn that much is odd!
Oh and by the way i was frustrated, i didnt mean could a engine hold that much oil, i ment wholly crap this engine needs this much.
I am currently changing the oil myself right now, and im gonna do it again at 1500 miles from now to check it again. As far as the dip stick im lost here, the first one was a distinct difference in the build like a little bobber where the oil fill was the new one is just a plane old dip stick. Knew they were both different the min we opened. Im having a reorder done to see if i get something the same or different.

On my truck it would go through a quart of oil every 1000 miles in city driving.
Now when I went down to Bakersfield last year it did not burn a drop over the entire trip. I generally cruised in the 80 to 90 MPH range. Seems like they burn more with stop and go driving.
Once again, sorry I kind of jumped on you. My fault, not yours.
