Has anyone started the Beta yet?

I'm trying to download it. First attempt got me to 2.7gb of 3.1gb before the dl failed................

Trying again now.

They say it is faster than xp and vista and not as blotted as either using less resources............

looks interesting, but in august it expires and I wonder how the rollback will go, because you cannot revert from vista to XP. I hope you don't have to slick the hard drive to reinstall windows.

Did you have any trouble with drivers?? How about software installations from Vista versions?

windows 7 is a better version of xp they are scrapping vista. How is it? I have been hesitating ever since they came out with vista to give up xp I miss my windows 95:marchmellow: if it is good then maybe I wont go over to mac:D Be honest:p keep us posted if you get any bugs.

I like Vista............. but damn it chews up a bunch of memory.

7 is fast and so's far everything I've installed has worked. I like the interface and all seems well. Magic ISO power ISO....... winrar........now on to all my pirated software HEHE see how she does.

Remember over 90% of the code is still Windows NT. Windows XP aka Windows 5.1 was just a nice shell and refinements. Vista aka Windows 6.0 added 3d accelerated desktop and became a pain in the a$$. Each version cleans up more bugs and further refines the code. Look up the vulnerabilities (patches) and you will see that most affect every version of windows because they are all running the same code.

Windows 7 IS Vista, XP, NT, ME, 98, 95 just with further refinements from all of us being pissed at it and rolling back to XP. :D

Windows 7 has the same 3d stuff nice GUI. the file system is better, faster.

I haven't put fallout 3 one there yet but i installed magic iso and mounted a copy of rise of nations. Plays good, fallout will be no problem. Office 2007 mounted and installed good also.

XP could not and would not ever be able to use over 2gb of ram. Windows 7 is using all 4 gigs in my gaming laptop.

Windows 7 is an updated version of Vista. It is one of the most popular downloads at this time.

I haven't had a lot of time lately but have it scheduled to install it on one of the test computers. Really good reports so far considering it is in beta (pre-release).

I still wouldn't suggest installing it on someones main computer though.

Your right, 32 bit version of Vista and W7 use up to 4GB of Ram and the 64bit takes advantage of 8GB.

Testing has shown not a lot of increse in speeds afterwards.

I installed it on my notebook.. I'll let you know what I think after I have a chance to use it a bit.

You must not have been doing the right things! :D :p :D

I'll have to read up on it though. Hopefully it is using spare RAM for file caching much like Linux/Apple does instead of constantly wanting to write stuff to the pagefile for no reason. That has always aggravated me.
