wiring question

I'm trying to hook up my D-pic autometer in the pillar pod, and since it just has power, lights, and ground wires, I was curious if I could just splice it into the existing plug used for the oil temp gauge. Just trying to avoid running wires all over the place. And they look to be too short to reach the fuse box anyway. Anyone know which of the four wires on the oil temp gauge plug are for what? Thanks.

you could do that.. i'v done gauges like that keeps everything simple but i could recomend doing the right fittings don't just splice into it

Yes you can. I did that some time ago with no ill effects. I don't remember the colors though. Get a circuit tester (cheap) and test the wires. Pick one up at AutoZone or any auto place. It looks like this:
