Ok folks, for all of you who have never personally seen the sound barrier,
feast your eyes on the pictures.

Actual photos of the sound barrier

SoundBarrier1.jpg

This phenomenon only happens at the instant an Aircraft breaks the sound barrier
soundbarrier2.jpg

soundbarrier3.jpg

And it literally appears like the aircraft goes through a wall.

WOW!!!

Now that would be an awesome Photoshopped SRT picture, ya think?

With Flying Low In Mind...
I'd pay money to see a Helo do that!
You could do it downhill once...

That first picture is pretty cool, what kind of plane is it?

:dontknow: Honestly I cannot act like the fighter plane guru. I really don't know. But it's really kewl to see stuff like that. I figured FlyingLow would be more familiar with that type of equipment.

I bet some really tough dudes fly that first one....sexy looking plane.

The first one is a B-1 Bomber!!

Bone can tell you all about it!

They go like this: B-1, F/A-18, F-14, F/A-18(s), F/A-18, F-14.

In case you were wondering!:dontknow:

Ive made farts that break the sound barrier next time Ill take some pics lol....

Why does it make that vapor cloud like that? :dontknow: Is it because the plane builds so much air pressure at the nose, it just "let's loose" at the sound barrier?

The pressure drops (rapidly there in the pic) and the air can't hold the water (vapor) anymore.

As you see, the wing on a plane will break the sound barrier before the actual plane (or nose) will. However, the Bone (B-1) has a lifting body which creates lift and nose/neck section has decreased pressure and increased lift, as you can see in the picture.

Thanks Maniac. I was just in awe when I saw that. I knew it would be appealing to you speed junkies (I'm guilty too)..

That's bull....

Oh c'mon guys, it's so simple, maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings these days.;)

I don't think picture #2 is real.

This is a Blue Angel, and is flying relatively low. See the houses below it? If it had broken the sound barrier at that altitude either during a show, or even during practice there would have been broken windows and all hell to pay.

Still cool pictures by the way.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo. I do see one house but the rest looks like forest!:dontknow:

How close do they need to be to afect windows??

I have been in buildings when one has done this and it did rock the house!!

Actually, it doesn't matter. In most cases it is against regs for any aircraft to break the sound barrier over land in the U.S. They have to be (I think) over 12 miles from land.

The obvious question then, is: "Would the Blues be able to get special permission to break the barrier due to the nature of their flying? And I think the answer would be yes.
