Working one day, not the next? Barely runs.

might want to check the map sensor, make sure you're getting the right amount of voltage i think its 5 volts, mine went bad and had similar results.

did u put a code reader on it?,sometimes the engine light wont come on when it throws a code

10-4, and amen.

Thanks. Will do.;)

Rather disheartened at this point. Tried firing it off to same result this afternoon. Saw that my AEM gauge lead was disconnected from the AEM comm cable, so I connected it. Just for S&G I tried firing it off again, and this time hear a pop and see a small amount of smoke roll out from under the near driver's side edge of the hood.:(

Dug in, under, and around. I find nothing obvious. No smoke trails, marks, etc., nor any blown fuses in the master box or my relay box. Then found the main engine harness had worked its way forward to the point it was touching the headers, but there aren't any obvious signs of damage. That's no guarantee though, since it's wrapped in heat shielding material. The wires could still have managed to get hot enough to be damaged beneath it.

I think I'm just going to have to pull the front wheels and wheel well liners out and go over everything with a fine-toothed comb. Whatever it is that smoked has to be the source or the result of the wiring fault, so I have to find that first.

At least I did all of the wiring myself, front to back. Not only should I be the best person for the job, but I have no one to blame but myself.

Ack! This fawking sucks!
:argh:

Sounds electrical to me.

The pop and smoke, really sounds electrical.

Would think something shorted.

The runnin rough, would think "electrical" Sensor wiring, Aem wiring, or maybe

even the water injection being trigered by mistake.

Yep it will take a minute to trouble shoot.

Just find it, fix it and make it better then before.

Remeber if this shat was easy everyone could do it.:D

Good luck man.

Definitely electrical. *If* I can get it to run again, my tuner will get me set up for data logging the AEM. That should at least point me in the right direction.

It kind of irks me that I'm having any electrical issues. I took exceptional care in everything I did. Solid grounding, water and heat protection, vibration and abrasion protection... Lots of extra time and attention went into all of it.

One thing that could have contributed to this was my belt failure. Lots of stuff got whipped and broken at the front of the engine, and most of the hydraulic fluid in the system ended up being sprayed over everything under the hood. It's possible that fluid managed to get into a connector somewhere.

Time will tell.

Thanks. I can always count on you for moral support!:p

those damn headers, mike brady was right:D

Heh, heh.;)

Actually, it had to physically touch the headers to be an issue. The Bellanger long-tubes I have are double-coated, and everything anywhere near the headers (steering column boot, starter, electrical, vacuum, and methanol lines) are all protected with DEI heat shielding products.

Could the smoke have been from an intake backfire? sounds like the timing is out of sync. maybe, after the burnout you did, the computer learned something it shouldn't have. maybe timing went past the knock sensor? I am just throwing out some thought!! reset the computer and try agian. when you get it running again STOP DOING BURNOUTS!!!!

Any updates????

Started FAS diagnostics (fuel, air, spark).

Began with spark, and lo and behold, no spark. Checked 7 of 10 cyls, and nada. That rules out a coil pack. Even verified the timing light was working on another vehicle, just to be sure.

Checked the cam position sensor connector and wiring, since it was near the path of destruction when the belts tore through the front of the engine bay. It looks fine.

Reconnected the factory ECU. Still no spark.

Verified that the AEM is alive and well. Connected a laptop, and monitored the engine during starting attempt. All was good there.

Checked an engine code I've had, P1296, which is a loss of 5v at the MAP sensor. Not sure if at all related since I have an aftermarket MAP sensor anyway, and have had a CEL for a very long time.

I've heard from multiple sources that crank sensors are notorious for failure. Going to my local Dodge dealer (actually found I still have one) today, who actually has one in stock, and it's cheap!

Will replace that today, and post up.

1st, it's an '04, so no knock sensor. Hell, with the timing being so conservative right now, I could probably run 87 octane.:p Second, it's being managed by an AEM.

Stop doing burnouts? Yeah. That'll happen.

Just for the sake of curiosity, why might you suggest that?

If it's not charging correctly, it could cause a whole host of issues... I would have it tested, just for shits-and-giggles if it was me. I've seen people work for months chasing electrical gremlins, only to find out the "lowly" little alternator was causing the problem.

That's what happened to me on the Cobra. By the time I was done I had replaced the plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and then the entire distributor, the MSD box and all wiring. Finally I was talking to Jack and he suggested the alternator. Disconnnected the belt and it ran fine. Replaced the alternator and it still ran like crap. Ended up being the voltage regulator.

Oh well, I got a shit load of spare parts now.:D

Was yours not running, or not running well?

I could certainly discon the alt connections to see, just for S&G.

In my case it was running poorly.

Mine just has no spark, period.

I'm really, REALLY hoping it's that crank sensor!:D

If it's the cam sensor, the ProCharger may have to come off first.:(
