I am looking for a higher powered cb/am/fm / ssb radio for my off-roading
I think Ranger makes them.

I am not sure exactly how they work or if they need special set-up of the channel frequencies (due to the power rating 25 watts and up vs standard cb 4watts)

4 watts is just too weak

I will see if momma will sell hers, I may have mine but think I sold it:confused: not sure, but hers is a pumped up connex 3300;)

I had the galaxy 99

i have learned alot about CB's in the past 3 years doing my job. started out with a cobra with ssb. you dont need ssb. then when that Chinese junk broke i went over to the general lee. its a 10/11 meter radio and good for about 15 open miles. another option is a good radio with a kicker. i have a little 250watt ( i think) kicker and i can reach out 25 miles. noone is ever on the 10 meter side these days. just remember that technically more then 5 watts is illegal on 11 meter and 10 meter is a ham channel, one thats not really used any more.

something else to keep in mind.

if 5 watts makes you friend key 3 watts where he is, 10 watts will only raise it half a bar. aka 3.5 in order to make any real difference you really need to kick out major wattage.

also keep in mind newer cars with FI cannot take too much RF interference, and you can burn out the computer.

if your off roading in a carborated(SP) truck then get a sweet 16, thats 1600 watts and can reach about 50 miles and can skip for a few thousand on a sunny day.

not really needing the 10 meter but that seems to be all I have found with the power I need along with the cb freqs

I had a turned up base station a LONG time ago,but I just bought it,I knew nothing about how to get it to do what it did
talked to California on good nights

off-roading in a 74 Bronco and it will never see fuel injection
old school all the way

I ran a Gallaxy 66 with a 400watt Palomer(not sure on spelling,LOL) and it would get out 25 miles no problem,with matched K40 antenna's!

i have a cobra 148 gtl- 40 channel with ssb had it tuned for a 450 watt kicker ,,lots of toys on it ,,,with echo ,,but i dont really like that much `,,

you dont need to go high dollar get a 25 ltd classic cobra and take it to a cb shop and have them turn it up and put bigger finals in it,,,the radio is under a 100 bucks and a good tune with finals should be that or less !! ,,,go to a truck stop and get on cb and ask for closest CB shop ,,,:D best one i ever been to was on I-40 somewere ,,,bet stink knows that shop ,,,bought my 450 watt there then went back and had them tune it ,,,i also know of a hamm guy in florida that is killer

that was the first radio i bought. i hope yours is the real one from 15 years ago and not in the last 10. it use to be the best but was outsourced to china and is junk. by the end of its life no one could fix it, it actually would reverse modulate! there is a CB shop in tn at the 40/75 split i think.

i have the old radio if ya really want it? it is junk thou.

still only 30 watts ,,,mine pumps over 480 watts after a tad of work ,,that way you can go over the hills and through the mudd to grandmama house we go:D

yeah i got a kicker too, 250 watts.

at 20 miles if i can pull 4 bars you can pull 4.5 max, lol. 2x the power = 1/2 a bar. thats why 1600 is called sweet 16. if i am pulling 4 bars at 20 miles that will push close to 6 bars. i work with people who at 1/4 mile can barely be heard. lol. also get yourself a monkey made.

wrong for what you are doing,

first the wilsons will break and bend in the woods.

get a cheap ass firestick, put on a spring loaded bottom, works just as good as wilson. the road king is all name bud, get a noise cancelling mike, heck I probably got one somewhere, forget the dang name at the momnet. but the ranger is alot of money for what you are gonna use it for, and kinda delicate, dont take jarring too well;)
but thats jsut me, I bought I dont know how many wilsons, and tried the fire stick , works just as good and half the price, on good nights 25 miles was no prob:itsme:

I will buddddd, I got to see if I got mine also, it pumped .........40 or 45 barefoot if I remember correctly,

I used to be on my base every night until lightning took it out along with the breaker box and all my tvs.Never replaced it.

I need good power (to be sure I can talk/receive in the boonies),reliablity, dependability, and fairly inexpensive

not going to be using it all except on the trail
