X-Metal Gen X shifter question

I'm just going to install a Gen X shifter I bought from a member long tome ago and was wondering if there is suppose to be a spacer between the shifter and the transmission I have about a 1/4" gap between the two. Or is there suppose to be spring tension?

I'm thinking you didn't get the ball into the hole in the shifter rod. You are outside and didn't hit the hole. Should be flish

It was in the hole (yeah yeah really funny) and then as I started to tighten it down it slowly stopped being able to move. The b&m is fine maybe I'll try again here


So as soon as the gap is about 3/16 remaining the shifter stops moving. The length of the ball end is about 1/4" longer than the stocker and b&m.

Didn't purchase the shifter from this member.

So if anyone has a Gen 1 and can get me specs for the spacer or anyone have an old Gen 1 spacer please let me know.
