Holy shit thats a loaded post! Search button works for each of these questions, but im in a good mood so this is what i learned. Ive had 9 different exhaust systems from the manifold back. I had many different mufflers with both x pipe and h pipe.

When would you want to use one of these on our Trucks?
I think they all need them. It reduces popping on decel, reduces resonance on high flow aftermarket exhaust systems, and adjust powerband lower (H) or higher (X) Greatly changes exhaust tone.

would it be better on a 2 or 4 door? Why?
HUH!? why do you think there would be a difference.

Would true duals be better? or the current setup with a better system i.e. 2 in to muffler, shared muffler, 2 out?...Why or why not?
"True duals" is relative. The stock systems maintains a single path for both pipes as there is no crossover in the shared muffler so there is no increased restriction. Shared muffler or not it can still be called true duals. I feel a crossover with each pipe having there own muffler does the best job controlling sound with as little restriction as possible. But shared mufflers are cheaper, and maybe easier to install depending on what your working wtih.

Are x/h pipes better on the low end or top for performance?
H pipes for low rpm tq X pipes for high rpm hp. Can you tell a difference seat of your pants on this truck NO! But the sound is substantial! There is to much info out there and on this site, for me to go through the lengthy explination on how it does that.

Should you use an X pipe or an H pipe? Whats the difference??
H-Pipe: In a catless system with flow thru mufflers, the h pipe was loud, deep and completely disappears at 3k rpm. Harsh, resonates, and popped on decel.
The x-pipe sounds more exotic, not as deep as the H but removes some of the harshness, virtually eliminates resonance (A band in your rpm range where the exhaust gets really loud and rattles everything in your truck. Its also more effective across the rpm range. Greatly reduces popping.
One thing to note is the viper engine is even firing. The left and right bank fires at the same time so the exhaust pulses are timed identical. The H-pipe is less effective at balancing out the pressure from those exhaust pulses, IMHO because of this than on a V-8.
Man i can help you more if you want to ask me more specific questions....
